Austin Hays looked to be back in rhythm Monday night. He had a triple and a homer with three RBIs and will now face a Boston Red Sox starter in Brayan Bello. Despite past strikeout issues vs. Bello, recent developments and form show value.
Hays has faced Bello four times in his career, striking out in each at-bat. That may lead you to ask why we’re betting on him today. The answer? Things have changed.
Bello is not the strikeout whiff-inducing pitcher he’s typically been. His career strikeout rate of over 20% has been a meager 16% this year. His whiff rate? It’s followed closely. That opens the door for Hays.
Hays has been quite strong against the primary pitch for Bello this season in the sinker. He’ll come into this game with 80 pitches of data against the sinker and has posted impressive numbers: .550 batting average, 1.050 slugging, and .675 wOBA.
