The Cincinnati Reds turn to southpaw Andrew Abbott on Wednesday afternoon as they look to complete a road sweep of the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Chicago counters with rookie right-hander Cade Horton in what shapes up to be a key matinee matchup.

One player to watch? Slumping Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki, who’s poised for a potential breakout performance — making him an intriguing option in my top Reds vs. Cubs predictions and today’s MLB picks for Wednesday, August 6.

Reds vs Cubs prediction

My Reds vs Cubs best bet: Seiya Suzuki Over 1.5 hits + runs + RBI (+100 at DraftKings)

Following a miserable 6-for-52 stretch at the dish with an unsustainably low .404 OPS and .179 BABIP, Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki rode the pine on Tuesday to hit the reset button.

Suzuki still posted a solid 41.2% hard-hit rate and 11.8 barrel percentage during the skid, so I anticipate positive regression across the board and in short order.

He’ll also have the platoon advantage against Cincinnati Reds southpaw Andrew Abbott this afternoon.

Abbott also has a splash of statistical correction coming his way. His 2.15 ERA is way below his 4.36 xFIP, and his .256 BABIP and 84.4% strand rate are unsustainably good.

Of course, Suzuki sports a team-high .371 wOBA and .258 ISO against lefties, and he hits in the heart of the lineup, further bolstering his chances at delivering in the clutch.

Reds vs Cubs same-game parlay (SGP)

Seiya Suzuki Over 1.5 hits + runs + RBI

Elly De La Cruz Over 1.5 hits + runs + RBI

Andrew Abbott Over 1.5 walks

Reds star Elly De La Cruz is turning in another solid season and sports a high-end .389 wOBA, .234 ISO, and .923 OPS against right-handed hurlers. Cubs righty Cade Horton sports a respectable 3.42 ERA, but his 4.51 xFIP suggests he’s also benefited from good fortune.

Abbott has issued 11 free passes across 25 innings over his past four starts, and the Cubs have an above-average 8.3 BB% against lefties for the season. Chicago could also have as many as seven right-handed hitters in the lineup, and Abbott’s BB% creeps up to 7.8% against righties.
