The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox will wrap up their rivalry series tonight in the Bronx, looking to find a series winner.
While I expect N.Y. to take care of business, there’s little edge to be had from a side perspective due to the pricing. Instead, my Red Sox vs Yankees predictions focus on the bat of slugger Paul Goldschmidt.
Find out why in my MLB picks for Sunday, June 8.
Red Sox vs Yankees prediction for Sunday Night Baseball
My Red Sox vs Yankees best bet: Paul Goldschmidt Over 1.5 hits+runs+RBI (-140 at Caesars)
At age 37, Paul Goldschmidt is having one of his best seasons in some time. His .313 batting average is 12th in the majors and would be the third-best mark of his career if the season ended now.
The OPS is up, too, representing the highest mark he's had in the last three seasons. However, the underlying metrics are even more telling and suggest this refreshed Goldschmidt at the plate may be sustainable for the rest of the season.
A look under the hood reveals Goldschmidt's expected batting average is among the Top 80th percentile, along with xWOBA and xSLG that follow suit.
He's in a great spot tonight, facing a rookie pitcher on the mound in Hunter Dobbins, for a variety of reasons. One of those is the pitch mix. Dobbins leans heavily on his slider and will likely do it even more tonight against such a deadly fastball lineup. That plays to Goldschmidt's strengths, though.
The veteran has been tremendous against the breaking ball, boasting a batting average that leads all New York Yankees, a slugging percentage that closely follows, and a +3 run value.
You'd like him to be able to take advantage of that tonight here, especially when you consider Dobbins comes into this game with a hard-hit rate in the Bottom 35% of baseball and a barrel rate just below the league average. That pairs nicely with Goldschmidt as he possesses the aforementioned hard-hit attributes.
You can target Goldschmidt's advantageous matchup tonight in many ways. However, with such a powerful lineup surrounding Goldschmidt in the lineup against a pitcher with a hard-hit problem, I choose the route of Over 1.5 hits+run+RBI. It's a bet that fully encompasses the full depth of the advantage the Yanks' hitters have.
My projections also showed the most significant edge on this prop, and I'd play it down to approximately -166, which demonstrates the value I see here.
Caesars QuickPick: Our Red Sox vs Yankees same-game parlay (SGP)
Yankees first five -0.5
Aaron Judge RBI
Paul Goldschmidt 2+ hits+runs+RBI
Rafael Devers 2+ hits+runs+RBI
I made the fair price on the F5 market around -152, giving me a decent edge. Carlos Rodon holds a decisive advantage over his opposition, with the Boston Red Sox not having very consistent splits against southpaws.
Aaron Judge has struggled throughout the series, but that can only last so long. Judge is in a great spot to deliver a run with the previously mentioned Goldschmidt hitting in front of him. Also, much like his teammate, he’ll benefit from the pitch mix and weaknesses of Dobbins.
While there’s not a ton of southpaw success in the Red Sox lineup, that’s certainly not the case for Rafael Devers. He enters this matchup with the eighth-best isolated-power rating in baseball against lefties.
This prop was nearly my best bet, as I made the fair line around -114. I’ll gladly include it to finish off this same-game parlay instead.
