The Philadelphia Phillies aim to complete a series sweep of the Boston Red Sox tonight after securing back-to-back low-scoring wins.

For our Red Sox vs. Phillies predictions, we're zeroing in on Phillies starter Jesus Luzardo to deliver a strong strikeout performance against Boston.

Let's breakdown more in my best MLB picks for Wednesday, July 23.

Red Sox vs Phillies prediction

My Red Sox vs Phillies best bet: Jesus Luzardo Over 6.5 strikeouts (-112 at FanDuel)

Philadelphia Phillies pitching has made the Boston Red Sox look silly through two games. Zack Wheeler didn’t have his best stuff on Monday night, but still posted 10 strikeouts in six innings. The bullpen added six more in the final four innings.

Cristopher Sanchez then did it all by himself on Tuesday night with 12 strikeouts in a complete game, allowing just one run on four hits. The Red Sox have struggled mightily this season against left-handed pitching, and we’re getting another southpaw on the mound tonight.

Jesus Luzardo has 129 strikeouts across 109 IP in his first 20 starts with the Phillies. He’s had at least seven strikeouts in exactly half of those, including two straight and three of his last four.

Boston has the fifth-worst strikeout rate (23.6%) this season, which goes up to a league-high 280 strikeouts in 1,043 at-bats vs. LHP (27.86%).

Red Sox vs Phillies same-game parlay (SGP)

Jesus Luzardo 7+ strikeouts

Under 8.5

Phillies -1.5

The Red Sox have scored just 10 runs in five games since the All-Star break, and six came in one game. The Phillies have also been held to five runs or fewer in five of six games since the break, and Lucas Giolito will do enough to keep this Under the total.

The Phillies should still get the job done, though, and the run line is enticing. The Red Sox have lost 4-1, 6-0, 3-2, and 4-1 since the break, and the Phillies have a distinct advantage with a 33-18 home record.
