The Boston Red Sox head to Truist Park tonight to begin a three-game set against the Atlanta Braves.
Atlanta's offense got a major boost with the return of Ronald Acuna Jr. last week, and my Red Sox vs. Braves predictions are betting on one of his teammates to have a big evening.
Here are my best free MLB picks for this interleague clash on Friday, May 30.
Red Sox vs Braves prediction
My Red Sox vs Braves best bet: Matt Olson Over 1.5 total bases (+135 at bet365)
Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson has an expected slugging percentage of .544 and ranks in the Top 10 in barrel rate, exit velocity, and hard hit rate. The two-time All-Star has been on fire this month, slugging .535 with eight homers and five doubles.
Olson will have the platoon advantage tonight against Boston Red Sox starter Lucas Giolito. The right-hander missed all of last year due to a UCL injury, and he began this season on the IL with a strained hamstring.
The veteran has pitched to a 5.27 ERA with an expected ERA of 5.08 through five starts. Giolito currently sits in the bottom 20th percentile in expected batting average (.290) and average exit velocity.
To say that Olson has Giolito's number would be an understatement. He's gone an incredible 7-for-13 at the dish with four homers against him in his career. That includes a game between these teams two weeks ago when Olson went 2-for-3 against Giolito and homered in the first inning.
Red Sox vs Braves same-game parlay (SGP)
Atlanta will give the ball to Grant Holmes, who has a 3.68 ERA with an OBA of .199 through 10 starts. The sophomore has eclipsed 17.5 outs in four of his last five starts. The Braves will need Holmes to pitch deep into this game since they used eight relievers in their doubleheader yesterday.
Holmes limited the BoSox to three hits and a pair of runs in six frames when he faced them at Fenway on May 17. That said, he walked four batters in that contest, and he has also issued 2+ walks in seven of his 10 starts this year.
