MLB Player Props & Best Bets Today for September 24: Not-So Mighty Max

Max Scherzer hasn't been his dominant self in 2025. Even separate from a lingering thumb injury, the veteran Blue Jays right-hander hasn't missed bats like he's accustomed to. That will continue tonight as the Red Sox rack up the hits.

We’re long past the dog days of summer with postseason baseball right around the corner, and my top MLB player props for Wednesday, September 24, are headlined by a fade of Toronto Blue Jays veteran Max Scherzer in a pivotal American League East battle against the Boston Red Sox.

Best MLB player props today

  • Blue Jays Scherzer o4.5 hits (+115)
  • Cubs Busch o1.5 H+R+RBI (+105)
  • Royals Kolek u5.5 hits (-105)

Our 3 best MLB player props for Wednesday, September 24

Take a look at our best bets and expert analysis below.

Prop #1: Max Scherzer Over 4.5 hits allowed

+115 at BetMGM

The Boston Red Sox have the second-highest batting average and ninth-highest wOBA in September and respectively rank ninth and 10th in the two metrics against righties for the campaign.

Of course, Toronto Blue Jays starter Max Scherzer has been inconsistent on the hill all year and is coming off his worst start of the season

With Scherzer allowing five or more hits in eight of his past 13 starts, I like the Boston bats having enough luck at the dish and/or the veteran righty to pitch deep enough into tonight’s game for this Over to cash.

Prop #2: Michael Busch Over 1.5 hits + runs + RBI

+105 at BetMGM

With Chicago Cubs first baseman Michael Busch mired in a mini-slump, this is a ripe spot for a breakout showing with New York Mets righty Jonah Tong bringing a 5.94 ERA into just his fifth career start.

Busch owns an impressive .372 wOBA, 2.58 ISO, and .870 OPS against righties this season, and even with the noted poor stretch, he’s still hit the Over in this market in seven of his past 11 games.

Prop #3: Stephen Kolek Under 5.5 hits allowed

-105 at BetMGM

The Los Angeles Angels have the lowest team batting average against right-handed pitchers this season, and they also sport the second-lowest overall mark in September, so I’m expecting another tidy outing from Kansas City Royals righty Stephen Kolek.

Kolek has settled in of late, allowing four or fewer hits in four of his past five starts while spinning a tidy 1.91 ERA and 0.76 WHIP.
