Our 3 best MLB player props for Thursday, August 21
Take a look at our best bets and expert analysis below.
Jose Altuve Over 1.5 hits, runs, and RBI (-135 at DraftKings)
Jose Altuve has fared well against right-handed pitchers all season long. He’s posted a .279 average and generated 34 extra base hits, showing a good mix of contact and power.
Altuve has a nice matchup looming against Brandon Young. Although the Baltimore Orioles right-hander performed very well against the Houston Astros last time out, it was an abnormally strong showing from someone with just one win and a 5.68 ERA on the season.
Young leans heavily on the fastball against right-handed hitters, and Altuve owns a .304 average against that pitch, indicating he’s well-equipped to win this battle.

Junior Caminero Over 1.5 hits, runs, and RBI (-125 at Caesars)
Junior Caminero has greatly benefited from playing in such a hitter-friendly ballpark on home soil.
The Tampa Bay Rays star has recorded multiple H+R+R in 60% of his home games this season, drastically higher than his road hit rate of 41%. While Sonny Gray is a solid pitcher, the St. Louis Cardinals veteran has given up a lot of power to right-handed bats like Caminero.
Not to mention, Caminero excels against Gray’s pitch mix. Caminero owns a .287 average against Gray’s most-used pitch, the sinker, and has generated an average exit velocity of 97.7 miles per hour over his last 25 at-bats against pitches in Gray’s arsenal.

Ivan Herrera Over 0.5 singles (-120 at bet365)
Ivan Herrera is having a nice offensive season for the Cardinals, but all of his power comes against left-handed pitching. He owns a .342 ISO against lefties compared to just .076 vs. righties.
Joe Boyle is a back-of-the-rotation caliber pitcher whom Herrera and the Cardinals should be able to generate hits against. Of Herrera’s 53 hits against right-handed arms, 44 have gone for just one base.
That means a whopping 83% of his hits vs. righties were singles. Herrera has hit one in 59% of his road games as well, providing plenty of value at this price.
