Expert MLB moneyline picks for August 8

Braves vs Yankees: Braves (-117)

Braves win probability: 53.9%

Chris Sale takes the bump against Gerrit Cole at Yankee Stadium, and this matchup favors the road side. Sale is missing bats and stifling hard contact, while New York’s offense has sputtered to a bottom-tier 72 wRC+ in this split. Atlanta offers a clean analytical edge at a fair price.

Angels vs Marlins: Angels (+150)

Angels win probability: 40%

Miami priced at -156 feels bloated, opening up an attractive plus-money play on Los Angeles. Walbert Urena goes against Sandy Alcantara. While Alcantara brings marquee star power, Miami’s lineup remains stagnant in the lower third with an 88 wRC+. Taking a shot on the Angels at +150 is the move.

A's vs Red Sox: Athletics (+186)

Athletics win probability: 35%

Laying -203 on Boston stretches the favorite tax too far for me, creating real betting value on the Athletics. A's southpaw Gage Jump faces Jake Bennett in an intriguing pitching matchup. Boston has the offensive upper hand, but this inflated price tag makes taking the +186 dog the disciplined play.

Blue Jays vs Phillies: Phillies (-133)

Phillies win probability: 57%

Aaron Nola battles veteran Max Scherzer at Citizens Bank Park. Philadelphia owns a clear pitching advantage, backed by a 3.30 bullpen SIERA compared to Toronto’s 4.26 mark across the past 14 days. With the Blue Jays laboring at an 88 wRC+ in this split, backing the home favorite at -133 makes plenty of sense.

Mets vs Pirates: Pirates (-133)

Pirates win probability: 57%

Pittsburgh hands the ball to electric rookie Bubba Chandler against Robert Stock. The Pirates feature superior underlying numbers, including a 3.41 SIERA and a 10.89 K/9 that easily outpaces New York's rotation. Expect Pittsburgh’s swing-and-miss stuff to handle business, justifying the modest -133 price.

Reds vs Nationals: Reds (-127)

Reds win probability: 55.9%

Cincinnati sends power righty Chase Burns to the mound against Andrew Alvarez. Washington’s bullpen remains a glaring liability, anchored at the bottom of the league with a 5.03 SIERA and a meager 4.0% K-BB rate. The Reds lineup holds enough firepower to exploit this matchup.

Twins vs Brewers: Twins (+156)

Twins win probability: 39.1%

Milwaukee laying -163 is a steep ask, making Minnesota the actionable side at +156. Taj Bradley brings legitimate high-end strikeout potential to match up against Robert Gasser. The Twins pack enough punch offensively to make this plus-money road dog well worth a look at American Family Field.

Cubs vs Royals: Royals (+150)

Royals win probability: 40%

Chicago’s high price tag pushes past any reasonable limits, drawing attention straight to Kansas City at +150. Veteran Seth Lugo provides stable innings against Clay Holmes. Playing on home dirt with the market overvaluing the road favorite, grabbing the Royals at a big home dog price is the correct strategy.

Guardians vs White Sox: Guardians (-104)

Guardians win probability: 51%

Gavin Williams faces Anthony Kay in an evenly priced pick 'em spot. In their past 14 days, Cleveland holds a decisive edge in overall run prevention, boasting a 3.78 bullpen SIERA and a 25.8% strikeout rate compared to Chicago's 4.33 SIERA. With identical moneyline odds, trust the stronger pitching staff to pull it out.

Orioles vs Rangers: Rangers (-127)

Rangers win probability: 55.9%

Jacob deGrom commands the mound at Globe Life Field against Kyle Bradish, handing Texas a massive edge in rotation quality. Baltimore’s lineup continues to scuffle, managing just a 78 wRC+ alongside a hefty 25.9% strikeout rate. Laying the juice on deGrom at home is the right call.

Rockies vs Cardinals: Rockies (+140)

Rockies win probability: 41.7%

St. Louis at -165 is simply priced out of reach, making Colorado at +140 the better value. Kyle Freeland and Matthew Liberatore square off in a battle of lefties. The Rockies lineup has shown sneakily decent pop (87 wRC+, .171 ISO), making them an appealing dog against a fragile Cardinals club.

Tigers vs Giants: Tigers (-113)

Tigers win probability: 53.1%

Detroit enters as the hottest offense in this split, leading the majors across the past 14 days with a scorching 146 wRC+ and a .380 wOBA. Youngster Jackson Jobe opposes Landen Roupp. Given Detroit’s massive offensive baseline compared to San Francisco’s average 101 wRC+, laying a short -113 on the Tigers is a great spot.

Astros vs Padres: Padres (-122)

Padres win probability: 55%

San Diego hands the ball to Michael King against Peter Lambert at Petco Park. The Padres combine upper-crust pitching statistics (3.10 SIERA, 25.7% K%) with a top-five offense (112 wRC+). Backed by home-field advantage and better depth, San Diego looks like a firm favorite at -122.

Dodgers vs Diamondbacks: Diamondbacks (+156)

Diamondbacks win probability: 39%

Los Angeles, priced at -163, is too expensive on the road, so our attention turns to Arizona as a large home dog. Brandon Pfaadt duels Yoshinobu Yamamoto at Chase Field. The Diamondbacks contact-heavy lineup limits strikeouts well (17.4% K%), making a division rival at a generous home dog price hard to pass up.

Rays vs Mariners: Mariners (-113)

Mariners win probability: 53.1%

George Kirby takes the hill for Seattle, anchoring a pitching staff that paces MLB with a 2.56 SIERA and a 31.3% strikeout rate. Griffin Jax gets the nod for Tampa, but Seattle’s elite run prevention at home gives them the upper hand at a very manageable -113 price tag.
