The Baltimore Orioles will look to bounce back from a tough loss to open their series as they host the New York Mets again on Wednesday night.

New York starter David Peterson is a tough matchup for Baltimore, so I’m taking New York to cover the run line in my Mets vs. Orioles predictions.

Read on for a full breakdown of tonight’s game in my free MLB picks for Wednesday, July 9.

Mets vs Orioles prediction

My Mets vs Orioles best betMets -1.5 (+105 at FanDuel)

The Baltimore Orioles have struggled against left-handed pitching this season, bringing down their already disappointing offensive numbers. Southpaws have held Baltimore to a .222 batting average, and a .617 OPS – more than 100 points worse than the Orioles hit against righties. Baltimore is averaging just 3.81 runs per game when they face lefty starters.

That’s the situation the Orioles find themselves in tonight, as the New York Mets are sending David Peterson to the mound. Peterson has shown himself to be one of the better left-handed starters in the majors over the past two seasons.

Despite a couple shaky starts last month, Peterson has a 3.18 ERA and 1.275 WHIP on the year, and has done a great job of keeping the ball in the park, allowing only seven homers in 102 innings of work this season.

The Mets lineup has come to life again as of late, and gets a soft target tonight in Orioles starter Tomoyuki Sugano, who has thrown to a disastrous 8.87 ERA over his past five starts.

With New York likely to put up runs early and Peterson the perfect choice to shut down the Baltimore lineup, I’m taking the Mets to cover the run line tonight.

Mets vs Orioles same-game parlay (SGP)

Mets -1.5

Under 10

Pete Alonso to record an RBI

Along with taking the Mets to cover the run line, I’m also backing the Under at a flat 10 runs. Peterson should keep the Orioles in check, and that alone makes a double-digit total unlikely.

I’ll also take Pete Alonso to pick up at least one RBI, something he’s done in four of his last five games.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
