The New York Mets are in the thick of the NL Wild Card race, and they play the second game of a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field tonight.

The Cubs are -118 moneyline favorites, while the total sits at 7. First pitch is at 8:05 p.m. ET on ESPN.

My Mets vs. Cubs predictions and MLB picks for are calling for another high-scoring game in the Windy City on Wednesday, September 24.

Mets vs Cubs prediction

Mets vs Cubs best bet: Over 7 (-120)

Chicago Cubs lefty Matthew Boyd has struggled down the stretch with a 5.77 ERA and 1.33 WHIP across his past eight starts, and his underlying 5.02 xFIP doesn’t instill confidence, either.

Boyd probably has a splash of statistical correction ahead of his .302 BABIP and 64.5% strand rate during the stretch, but I’m not expecting marked improvement after he out-pitched his underlying metrics before this highlighted run.

The Chicago lineup is also positioned to tee off on New York Mets righty Jonah Tong, with the rookie bringing a 5.94 ERA and 1.44 WHIP into just his fifth big-league start.

New York and Chicago combined for 16 runs in Tuesday's series opener, and I’m expecting more offense tonight at Wrigley Field.

Mets vs Cubs same-game parlay (SGP)

The New York bats will stay hot. The season is essentially on the line and, as noted, Boyd has struggled. Additionally, the Chicago bullpen was required for 18 outs in the series opener.

While Cubs first baseman Michael Busch is mired in a mini 2-for-17 slump across his past six games, he’s still sporting a solid .265 batting average against righties for the year. His underlying numbers pop, too, with Busch’s 372 wOBA, 2.58 ISO, and .870 OPS against right-handed arms all high-end marks.
