Mets vs Cubs Prediction, Picks & Odds — Thursday, September 25

Even though Nolan McLean has looked great, this is a high-pressure situation against the Cubs. The Mets need a win, but both teams' bats will do damage, with Juan Soto looking to continue his hot streak.

The New York Mets and Chicago Cubs will play the rubber match of their three-game set at Wrigley Field on Thursday, September 25.

There have been plenty of crooked numbers put up on the scoreboard through the first two games, and my Mets vs. Cubs predictions and top MLB picks are calling for more of the same in the series finale tonight.

Mets vs Cubs prediction

Mets vs Cubs best bet: Over 7.5 (-110)

The New York Mets and Chicago Cubs have combined for 29 runs through the first two of their three-game set, and we’re landing a low total again tonight.

New York rookie righty Nolan McLean has been lights out with a 1.27 ERA and 1.01 WHIP across seven starts, and his 2.94 xFIP is also solid.

Still, it’s been a quick climb to the highest level for the 24-year-old rookie, and the Chicago lineup doesn’t offer many easy outs.

Turning to Cubs lefty Shota Imanaga, who's been solid but unspectacular down the stretch. He’s surrendered three earned runs in each of his past five starts for a 4.66 ERA, and he’s also allowed multiple home runs in four of five.

Both clubs send deep lineups with go-to hitters to the dish, too. New York and Chicago both rank in the Top 10 in runs per game, while respectively checking in ninth and 10th in wOBA since the calendar flipped to September.

Mets vs Cubs same-game parlay (SGP)

The moment will be too big for McLean tonight at Wrigley Field. Chicago's bats have woken up through the first two games of the series, and this is a must-win game for the Mets with New York in the thick of the National League wild-card race.

Plus, Chicago is 47-30 at home while New York is 32-45 on the highway.

The final leg of this same-game parlay turns to Mets star Juan Soto. He’s been automatic for most of the season with an elite .934 OPS and sports an eight-game hitting streak. Obviously, he doesn’t hold the handedness advantage against Imanaga, but I’m still confident he checks the hits column for a ninth straight game tonight.
