The Miami Marlins and New York Yankees open a three-game series with strong pitchers.

Eury Perez is the more talented arm on paper, but both pitchers share a common flaw that matters in this ballpark. Neither can suppress hard contact.

My Marlins vs. Yankees predictions and MLB picks break down why both the side and total lean toward the Yankees and offense on Friday, April 3.

Who will win Marlins vs Yankees today: Yankees -1.5 (+127)

When I said Eury Perez was the more talented arm, it was more of a "he's more well-rounded" statement. That is best evidenced by Will Warren's run value differential from pitch to pitch last season: +11 on the fastball, -11 and -12 on two breaking pitches.

But that is overshadowed by one thing: Pérez's hard-hit rate.

It is simply not a problem you want to have when heading to Yankee Stadium for the New York Yankees home opener. This team has ranked in the top five in hard-hit rate and barrel rate over five consecutive seasons.

Perez will lean on his elite strikeout stuff and have some success, but eventually, a deep power lineup will tee off.

Covers COVERS INTEL: It's a small sample but through six games this season, six of the expected starting Yankees lineup today have posted a hard-hit rate of 50% or higher.

Marlins vs Yankees Over/Under pick: Over 8 (+100)

Both starters posted barrel rates that ranked in the bottom 10% of baseball last season.

In other words, neither arm can keep the ball in the park consistently. Not ideal in the hitter-friendly confines of Yankee Stadium. Even less ideal when a solid breeze is blowing out.

Warren is just as prone to being blown up as Pérez. The fastball velocity is elite, but real issues appear if you can get him off it. He comes off a 2.08 ERA start, but an expected ERA north of 4 hints at the underlying problems.

The Miami Marlins may not have to do much to push this over if the New York bats show up, too.
