Mariners vs Rangers Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s MLB Game

The Texas Rangers are struggling to score runs, and a matchup vs. Bryan Woo won't solve their issues. As Andrew Caley explains, Woo should be in line to record the win behind excellent pitching and great run support.

The Seattle Mariners have climbed to the top of the American League West standings thanks in part to their bats having caught up to their arms in recent weeks.

Tonight, they face a team they have overtaken in the standings, the Texas Rangers. Now, it’s Texas that is struggling at the plate, and it won’t get any easier against Seattle starter Bryan Woo.

My Mariners vs. Rangers predictions break down and bring you my MLB picks for this AL West showdown with first pitch slated to go at 8:05 pm ET at Globe Life Field in Arlington on Friday, May 2.

Mariners vs Rangers prediction

My Mariners vs Rangers best bet: Bryan Woo to record the win (+165 at DraftKings)

The Seattle Mariners have been scoring runs. In fact, they enter tonight’s matchup with the Texas Rangers ranked fifth in OPS and second in wRC+. And when you combine that with the type of pitching the Mariners have, you’re going to win some baseball games.

And that’s exactly what they’ve done, winning 14 of their last 18 games. That run has catapulted them past the Rangers and into first place in the American League West.

When it comes to scoring runs, I’m not sure people thought that it would be a problem for this Rangers lineup. But it has. And a big one.

Texas comes into this game ranked 24th in batting average, 26th in OPS, and 25th in wRC+, and it’s hard to see those numbers improving as they have to dig in against Mariners starter Bryan Woo tonight.

The 25-year-old right-hander is off to a great start this season. Woo is pitching to a 2.99 expected ERA while limiting opponents to a .226 expected batting average over five starts this season. He also pitched well against the Rangers back on April 12, holding them to one run on six hits while striking out seven over seven innings pitched.

Woo has also struck out current Rangers batters a big 27.6% of the time across 76 plate appearances.

Meanwhile, the Rangers counter with one of their top prospects in Jack Leiter. The 25-year-old right-hander impressed in his first two starts, but a blister sent him to the injured list, and his return was a little rocky.

Leiter lasted just 3 1/3 innings against the San Francisco Giants, allowing two runs on two hits and four walks.

These teams are just trending in opposite directions at the moment, and I like the Mariners to get out to a lead, which Woo will hold through at least five innings and earn himself his fourth win of the season.

Mariners vs Rangers same-game parlay (SGP)

Bryan Woo to record the win

Adolis Garcia Under 0.5 hits

Jack Leiter Over 2.5 walks

One Rangers player who won’t be happy to see Bryan Woo on the mound tonight is Adolis Garcia.

While Garcia has taken him deep before, he has just a .177 xBA with five strikeouts in 12 career plate appearances vs. Woo.

Garcia has gone hitless in five of his last 10 games, where he has a .200 batting average and struck out 14 times. Let’s add another donut in the hit column to this same-game parlay.

Let’s round this SGP out with Jack Leiter to give out a bunch of free passes. Control issues are not uncommon for young pitchers, and mix in a potential blister, and your command can go missing quickly.

Leiter gave up three walks in his last start, and the Mariners have the highest walk rate in baseball.
