HR picks for August 13
Kyle Tucker (+425 at DraftKings)
Kyle Tucker has been a tremendous addition to the Chicago Cubs offense, smacking 18 homers with 62 RBI. He’ll face Kevin Gausman of the Toronto Blue Jays tonight.
Gausman has allowed 17 bombs in 23 starts this season, and although Tucker hasn’t taken him deep, he’s 4-for-9 lifetime with a pair of doubles. Twelve of Tucker’s round-trippers have come against right-handed hurlers, and he’s also smacked 12 on the road.
Tucker hasn’t left the yard since July 19, but tonight offers a perfect opportunity against a guy he’s had boatloads of success against in the past.
Shohei Ohtani (+130 at DraftKings)
It’s rare to see any player with such low home run odds, but we’re talking about Shohei freaking Ohtani. He’s scorching hot, having hit a homer in four consecutive appearances. That’s a ridiculous streak, and I’m eyeing him to make it five tonight.
Although Ohtani is on the mound for the Los Angeles Dodgers as they look to end a five-game skid against the Los Angeles Angels, Ohtani has taken pitch-to-contact RHP Kyle Hendricks deep.
Ohtani couldn’t be more confident right now. The majority of his power output is versus righties, too, hitting 33 round-trippers in the split.
Juan Soto (+270 at DraftKings)
August has been kind to Juan Soto so far. He’s hitting .282 with three home runs already, taking his season total to 28. After a slow start, the $765-million man has come alive for the New York Mets.
The Mets take on the Atlanta Braves right-hander Carlos Carrasco, who is far from the same pitcher he used to be. Soto is just 2-for-10 against him, but he has taken Carrasco deep, and the righty has allowed nine bombs in just 10 appearances this season.
Soto is hitting .262 versus right-handed pitchers with 22 of his home runs. He’s also shown out when facing the rival Braves this year, batting .286 with four long balls.
