HR picks for August 18

Pete Crow-Armstrong (+425 at DraftKings)

What a season Pete Crow-Armstrong is having. The All-Star is a major reason the Chicago Cubs are going to make the playoff, as he's hitting .261 with 27 long balls.

While PCA hasn’t actually homered this month, he’ll be excited for today’s matchup in the first game of a doubleheader against the Milwaukee Brewers. They send ace Freddy Peralta to the mound, and although he’s been dominant overall this year, Crow-Armstrong has his number.

He’s 5-for-9 lifetime with a round-tripper in this matchup. Crow-Armstrong has a pair of multi-hit games over his last three appearances, so he’s coming into this contest with confidence, too.

The 23-year-old has smacked 20 homers off right-handed hurlers.

Jose Altuve (+700 at DraftKings)

I rarely include Jose Altuve in my homer props, but he’s still a player with serious pop in his bat.

The Houston Astros star has 22 home runs this season while hitting .280. He’s still producing the goods offensively. Altuve has four bombs in August and three in his last nine games alone.

The Venezuelan will face Jack Flaherty of the Detroit Tigers tonight. He’s 5-for-13 lifetime with a long ball and three RBI head-to-head.

Flaherty is prone to the homer, giving up 20 in 24 starts. Nine of them have been off the bats of right-handed hitters.

Altuve has 17 bombs off righties and 10 of his HRs are on the road — Houston is at Comerica Park for this one. Don’t be surprised if he continues his success against Flaherty.

Shohei Ohtani (+155 at DraftKings)

I know Shohei Ohtani is almost a regular in my home run picks, but it’s understandable, right?

I mean, he has 43 long balls. The guy is a machine.

Although the Los Angeles Dodgers face a lefty tonight, which doesn’t always mean the most power output for Ohtani, it’s one who is having a nightmare campaign.

Kyle Freeland is on the bump, and he has a 5.18 ERA. Freeland has allowed 16 home runs in 22 starts, and Ohtani is 4-for-6 lifetime against him with two round-trippers.

Of course, the Dodgers are in Colorado, where the ball flies due to the elevation. With the power Ohtani has, this one is a no-brainer.
