HR picks for June 9

Manny Machado (+390 at DraftKings)

The San Diego Padres have been impressive offensively, and Manny Machado has undoubtedly played his part. The veteran is batting .318 with 10 dingers and 33 RBI. While he’s not putting up huge power numbers, the baseball is leaving the yard more frequently as of late for Machado.

The third baseman has gone deep four times already in June, smacking three homers in his last four games alone. Machado left the ballpark on Sunday with a solo bomb against the Milwaukee Brewers. The Padres now begin a crucial series with the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight, and he’ll like the matchup.

L.A. hands Dustin May the ball, and Machado has a pair of homers off him already in his career. Even though just three of his bombs are off righties, there’s a track record of success here, and Machado is going to bring his best against San Diego’s rivals.

Shohei Ohtani (+180 at DraftKings)

Now we hop over to the other side with Shohei Ohtani. The Japanese superstar is on his way to another NL MVP trophy, hitting .293 with 23 home runs.

Ohtani has just one homer in June so far after going deep 15 times in May, but he'll be happy with tonight’s matchup. The Padres will start Nick Pivetta, who will get his first taste of the I-5 Series.

It’s always a treat when these two ball clubs meet, and there’s a different level of intensity. While Pivetta is pitching well with a 3.16 ERA, Ohtani has had success against him — albeit a small sample size.

He’s 4-for-12 lifetime, and two of those hits are dingers. Ohtani also has 19 homers against right-handed hurlers.

Matt Olson (+235 at DraftKings)

Matt Olson has been one of the most feared hitters in the Majors over the last five years. He possesses significant power, even slugging 54 home runs in 2023. While Olson has only 13 bombs so far, he’s always a threat to leave the yard.

The Atlanta Braves will take on the Milwaukee Brewers tonight, and Aaron Civale takes the mound. The righty has only pitched 17 1/3 innings, but he’s given up four homers, with left-handed hitters smacking three of those long balls.

Although Olson has never actually faced Civale, 10 of his home runs are off RHPs. He also had three RBI on Sunday with a long double that drove in all of Atlanta’s runs.
