MLB Home Run Props, Picks & Odds Today for May 3: Alonso On A Heater

When many thought it would be Juan Soto bringing the heat for the New York Mets, Pete Alonso stepped in to remind many just what he is made of as the St. Louis Cardinals may not have enough in the tank to keep him at bay.

HR picks for May 3

Red Sox Alex Bregman (+285 at DraftKings)

Alex Bregman has been all the Boston Red Sox could’ve asked for and more. The veteran is leading Boston offensively, slashing .331 with eight home runs. He’s hitting for power on a pretty consistent basis. Bregman went deep on Friday at Fenway Park, his third long ball in the last four games.

The 31-year-old is up against Minnesota Twins starter Bailey Ober today, who has already allowed five homers in six starts. Although Bregman hasn’t swung it well against him in limited at-bats, it’s hard to ignore how hot he is. The third baseman has a 12-game hitting streak going at the moment.

He’s slugged three home runs at Fenway and the Red Sox host the Twins again. Considering his brilliance at the dish in more ways than one, this pick must be locked in

Mets Pete Alonso (+320 at DraftKings)

The New York Mets were hoping Juan Soto could be the superstar they needed right off the bat this season, but he’s actually struggled. Instead, it’s been Pete Alonso who has shined. The slugger is batting .345 with eight homers, 11 doubles, and 30 RBI. He’s doing it all.

Alonso just went yard on Friday against the St. Louis Cardinals and five of his long balls have come on the road – the Mets visit the Cards here. He also had two bombs in six games versus St. Louis last season as well.

They hand Erick Fedde the baseball and he’s given up three HRs so far. Alonso is always a threat to put one in the bleachers and he’s hitting .375 lifetime against Fedde with a pair of doubles. He could get under one today.

Giants Matt Chapman (+360 at DraftKings)

Matt Chapman isn’t having the greatest campaign for the San Francisco Giants, slashing only .202. But he does have six home runs in 33 games. Chapman ended a six-game streak of no homers on Friday when he went deep against the Colorado Rockies.

Three of Chapman’s home runs this season have come at Oracle Park, and the Giants play there again today versus Colorado. They’re also starting a guy with an ERA over 10 in Bradley Blalock, who has also allowed two home runs in only seven innings of work.

Chapman could benefit.

  1. Ben Rice, New York Yankees (+290)
  2. Yordan Alvarez, Houston Astros (+255)
  3. Pete Alonso, New York Mets (+320)
  4. Matt Chapman, San Francisco Giants (+360)
  5. Oneil Cruz, Pittsburgh Pirates (+285)
