Our MLB expert expects the Rays to close things out tonight, as Tampa has a more stable pitching plan behind starter Freddy Peralta compared to the Guardians' bullpen approach.

The Tampa Bay Rays return to Tropicana Field one win away from the World Series, and Game 6 arrives under an unusual scheduling setup.

Our Guardians vs. Rays predictions for tonight favor Tampa Bay behind Freddy Peralta against a Cleveland bullpen game. Both teams had to travel from Cleveland to St. Petersburg after Sunday’s Game 5 and play again here, putting strain on the relief corps.

Here are my MLB picks for Monday, Oct. 19, with first pitch scheduled for 8:08 p.m. ET on TBS.

 TOP PICK
Guardians vs Rays prediction: Rays moneyline

For help understanding probabilities, see our odds calculator.

I’m backing the Tampa Bay Rays to close things out at up to 59%.

The Cleveland Guardians should have nearly all hands on deck for a bullpen game, but they still must piece together 27 outs without Gavin Williams, who is "not an option."

The Guardians’ relief depth makes this more difficult than simply fading an exhausted bullpen. Yet every pitching change creates another matchup Tampa Bay can attack and another chance for Cleveland’s plan to unravel. I don't think it will take many runs to get the win. Simple, yet true.

Freddy Peralta gets the ball for the Rays and has looked better with each start this postseason. He held Cleveland to four hits over six scoreless innings in Game 2, and his nine-pitch relief appearance Saturday replaced his usual between-start bullpen session without compromising his availability.

With both clubs playing without a day off, Tampa Bay’s defined pitching plan and home-field advantage make the Rays the easier side to back.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Cleveland’s bullpen covered seven innings in Game 5, but Slade Cecconi, Joey Cantillo, and Tanner Bibee weren't used. With Williams unavailable, that rested trio could handle most of Monday’s bullpen game, especially with the rest of the relief corps gassed.

Who will win Guardians vs Rays?

Rays: Tampa should close out the series in Game 6. Cleveland can create favorable individual matchups, but Peralta gives the Rays a much cleaner path through the first six innings.

Guardians vs Rays combo

The uncertainty surrounding Cleveland’s pitching order makes the top of Tampa Bay’s lineup especially attractive. Yandy Diaz handles left-handed pitching well enough to remain a threat if Cantillo provides bulk innings, while Jonathan Aranda should have the platoon advantage against Cecconi and Bibee.

Diaz’s 14% strikeout rate creates reliable opportunities for him to start rallies, and his leadoff role gives him the best chance at five plate appearances.

Aranda pairs a .343 expected wOBA with a 46% hard-hit rate and has moved back to the center of Tampa Bay’s run production. Their involvement supports a correlated build with the Rays moneyline.

Guardians vs Rays combo

  • Rays moneyline
  • Yandy Diaz Over 1.5 hits + runs + RBI
  • Jonathan Aranda Over 1.5 total bases

Guardians vs Rays home run prediction: Junior Caminero

I'll back Junior Caminero again to go deep.

The Guardians need length from pitchers who have recently operated in reduced roles, increasing the likelihood that he gets at least one favorable matchup against Cecconi or Bibee.

Cecconi allowed a 9% barrel rate and posted a 4.91 ERA during the regular season. His four-seamer averaged 93.6 mph and generated only a 16% whiff rate, giving Caminero a hittable velocity band if Cecconi challenges him.

Caminero owns Tampa Bay’s best raw power profile, with a 49.7% hard-hit rate and 13.1% barrel rate.

Neil Parker's Guardians vs. Rays home run picks also like Caminero to jump the yard.

Guardians vs Rays player prop: Chase DeLauter Over 1.5 total bases

Peralta’s four-seamer creates the cleanest point of attack.

He throws it 53% of the time, but the pitch allowed a .414 expected slugging percentage and a 46.8% hard-hit rate this season.

DeLauter hit .338 and slugged .601 against four-seamers, with a .498 xSLG and a 49.6% hard-hit rate. Peralta’s changeup is the obvious counter, but DeLauter’s 14.7% strikeout rate makes him difficult to put away once he gets to two strikes.

The market is giving Peralta’s dominant Game 2 too much weight without fully pricing this specific fastball matchup.

Our Guardians vs. Rays prop picks are also backing DeLauter.
