Giants vs Dodgers betting preview

Starting pitchers

Kevin Gausman (5-0, 1.53 ERA): A number of Giants pitchers have had a late-career renaissance this season, and that's headlined by Kevin Gausman. After nine inconsistent seasons in the Majors, the 30-year-old righty is off to a 5-0 start with a sparkling ERA and a 0.85 WHIP. He's done well by stranding 89.1 percent of runners on base and giving up just 0.56 home runs per nine innings so far and has allowed more than one earned run just once in 10 starts this season.

Clayton Kershaw (7-3, 2.94 ERA): Kershaw hasn't needed a late-career resurgence: He just consistently remains among the league's top pitchers. The future Hall of Famer is using his fastball less and focusing more on his slider and curveball — and opponents are just hitting .179 and .167, respectively, off those breaking pitches. Kershaw is coming off an effort at Houston where he scattered four hits and one run across 7 2-3 innings.

Moneyline pick

After dropping the series opener on Thursday, San Francisco had lost four straight to the Dodgers, averaging just three runs per game in those contests.

An offense that averages 4.81 rpg on the season, the Giants bats finally showed up against Los Angeles over the last two days, cranking out 19 runs on 22 hits with 11 walks — and doing so against Walker Buehler and Julio Urias, two very high-quality arms.

While the Giants will be facing their toughest pitching matchup of series against Clayton Kershaw, who has issued multiple walks just twice in 11 starts and has a career 1.79 ERA versus the Giants, San Francisco is trotting out its ace this in Kevin Gausman.

Gausman has been a revelation at age 30, dominating opponents with a fastball-splitter combo, in which opponents are hitting .160 and .150 off those pitches. The righty has also been strong against left-handed hitters, holding them to a .200 opponent batting average with you two home runs allowed — which is key against a Dodgers lineup that just got back slugger Cody Bellinger and also features lefty power bat in Max Muncy.

The Giants are massive underdogs today but with their offense finally breaking through against LA, and their ace on the mound,  +155 is just too tempting for us to pass up.

PREDICTION: Giants (+155)

Over/Under pick

These clubs have combined for 30 runs over the last two games — easily crushing the 7.5 totals each contest — but it's hard to expect more fireworks in Sunday's series finale.

As mentioned above, this is the best pitching matchup of the four-game set, with Kershaw pitching great as always (and dominating the Giants in his career) while Gausman has simply humbled any and all offenses that he's faced all season.

The Under has cashed nine of the last 13 times the Dodgers have played on Sunday, as well as six of their last eight home games, while the Giants have seen the total go Under in five of their last seven road games against a southpaw (1-1 O/U this series).

The total opened a half-run lower than the previous two nights but with the caliber of arms on the mound, and bullpens that are in the top half of the league in ERA, we're going to bank on a low-scoring affair.

PREDICTION: Under 7 (-102)
