The Colorado Rockies selected right-hander Chase Dollander with the ninth-overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft and entered this season as the team's top prospect, but he has yet to live up to the hype.
At just 23, Dollander still has plenty of room to grow and can develop into a legitimate big-league pitcher. However, that development is unlikely to occur this season.
Through 12 starts, the right-hander is 2-7 with a 6.19 ERA and 1.48 WHIP. His underlying metrics are equally poor, as he ranks in the bottom third of the league in expected ERA (xERA), expected batting average (xBA), walk rate, and barrel rate.
Dollander has particularly struggled to retire hitters via strikeout, ranking in the 15th percentile in chase rate, 40th in whiff rate, and 29th in strikeout rate.
