Starting pitchers
Trevor Bauer (3-1, 2.44 ERA): Since allowing four earned runs in his first start with the Dodgers, Bauer has allowed two or fewer in six consecutive appearances. Bauer only threw 4 1-3 innings against the Cubs on Tuesday, and that came after six starts in a row with at least six innings pitched. He’s one of the best starters in the league but perhaps the Angels are getting him at the best possible time.
Jose Quintana (0-3, 10.59 ERA): Quintana has allowed five earned runs in three of his last four starts and he hasn’t pitched into the sixth inning in any of his five outings this season. Quintana hasn’t quite lived up to expectations this season, but we know what he's capable of doing and it’s certainly better than this, even in a worst-case scenario. Quintana’s 4.68 ERA in 2019 was the highest of his career, so he’s due for some positive regression, even if he’s in the midst of a lousy year.

Moneyline pick
Bauer won the NL Cy Young Award in last year’s shortened season and he's off to a solid start in Dodger blue. The only issue is that Bauer has walked six batters over his last two outings and he had to be pulled pretty early against the Cubs in his last start. Chicago didn’t do any real damage against the righty in that game, scoring only one run against Bauer over 4 1-3 innings. However, every pitcher in the league is due for a dud at some point, and the warning signs are there that one is coming for the flamethrower. His command has abandoned him, and he has given up homers in four starts in a row.
Bauer also happens to be running into a couple of players that have given him some issues in the past. Justin Upton is 4 for 11 with a homer and two doubles against the righty, while Jose Iglesias is 9 for 25 with two doubles and four runs scored against him. Mike Trout, meanwhile, is 3 for 11 with no homers against Bauer, but perhaps this is the game he takes him yard. The Angels scored 11 runs in last night’s loss to the Dodgers, but Trout didn’t drive in a single one of them. You can’t keep him down for long.
The +1.5 runline is definitely a bit safer here, but the Angels have a great chance at pulling this one out. They just need a solid outing from Quintana, who gets to face a Dodgers lineup that should be a little exhausted after last night’s game. The Dodgers are also missing some of their best bats.
PREDICTION: Angels (+152)
Over/Under pick
While it might seem like this was a projected blowup for Bauer, it's all relative. Allowing between three and five runs would be a poor outing for a player of his caliber.
These teams played a long game last night that went extremely late into the evening. With a quick turnaround for an afternoon game, it should be expected that the energy in this one will be somewhat low. And Quintana will look to take advantage of that in a get-right spot. He’s a much better pitcher than this year’s numbers suggest.
PREDICTION: Under 8.5 (-110)
