The Philadelphia Phillies return home to host the Chicago Cubs in a three-game set at Citizens Bank Park.

My Cubs vs. Phillies predictions are targeting Chicago as road underdogs in our best MLB picks for Monday, June 9.

My Cubs vs Phillies best bet: Cubs moneyline (+110 at Caesars)

The Philadelphia Phillies are in a huge rut right now. They opened their six-game road trip with an 8-3 win in Toronto, then went on to drop their next five games, scoring a single run in four of them. To make matters worse, Bryce Harper was placed on the injured list over the weekend.

Philadelphia is the last stop on the Chicago Cubs’ nine-game road trip. They won two of three in Washington before being quieted by the Tigers in Detroit. Returning home may benefit the Phillies, who are 19-12 at home as opposed to 18-16 on the road. However, the Cubs are nearly as good on the road (20-14) as they are at home (20-11).

It should be a good pitching matchup in Philadelphia with Zack Wheeler taking the hill against Matthew Boyd

Wheeler has been great this season at 6-2 with a 2.96 ERA and 0.92 WHIP, but got lit up for six runs while issuing four free passes in 5.1 innings. Even if he goes six or seven innings, this Phillies bullpen is one of the worst in the league with a 4.54 ERA.

Boyd has also put up impressive numbers for Chicago, going 5-3 with a 3.01 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 12 starts. The southpaw has a distinct advantage against this Phillies team. Philadelphia is just 8-12 against left-handed starters this season, including losses against Andrew Heaney, Bailey Failter, Jose Quintana, and Chris Sale in the last 10 games.

These are two of the best teams in the NL, but the Cubs are playing better right now, and we’re getting a rare underdog price to boot.

Cubs moneyline

Under 7.5

Matthew Boyd 6+ strikeouts

Both offenses have been struggling recently, with the Cubs being held to one run or fewer in three of their last five games, and the Phillies in four of their last five. That should continue with two strong pitchers on the mound.

Boyd has reached six strikeouts in seven of 12 starts this season, and he’s been racking up the punchouts since the end of April. In his last seven starts, Boyd has a total of 46 strikeouts in 40 1/3 innings, including 6+ Ks in six of those games.
