Two of the best left-handed pitchers in the sport are set to duke it out Saturday evening in Philadelphia.
My Braves vs. Phillies predictions see the pitchers winning out – especially early – in a low-scoring first half.
Let’s take a closer look at my MLB picks for Saturday, August 30.
Braves vs Phillies prediction
Braves vs Phillies best bet: F5 Under four runs (-130)
Both teams will be sending excellent pitchers to the bump as Philadelphia Phillies starter Christopher Sanchez is slated to go head-to-head with Chris Sale.
Sanchez has gotten touched up a couple of times of late, but even so, he has still held opponents to two earned runs or fewer in 14 of his last 17 starts.
He faced the Atlanta Braves once earlier this season and flirted with six innings while giving up just two earned runs.
Sanchez has pitched lights out at home, in particular. Only once has he conceded more than 2.5 earned runs, and that came against a powerhouse Dodgers team.
On the flip side, Sale owns a 2.53 ERA on the season and has conceded two runs or less in 11 straight major league starts. He last allowed even two runs in a game on May 11.
He missed time with an injury, of course, but that’s impressive to say the least.
I don’t know that Sale will see a full workload in his first start back, which is why we’re targeting the first five innings rather than the game total.
Braves vs Phillies same-game parlay (SGP)
Trea Turner is hitting .297 on the season and has great numbers against pitchers of both handedness, making him a safer player to bank on production from. Turner has recorded multiple H+R+RBI in 61% of home games and three of the last four in which Philadelphia hosted Atlanta.
I also see value in backing the Phillies on the moneyline. Each team is sending out a high-tier pitcher but Sanchez is more likely to be available to pitch deeper into the game. That’s a big plus given Atlanta’s bullpen ranks 25th in FIP this month.
Braves vs Phillies odds
- Moneyline: Atlanta +122 | Philadelphia -145
- Run line: Atlanta +1.5 (-179) | Philadelphia -1.5 (-115)
- Over/Under: Over 7.5 (-105) | Under 7.5 (-115)
