Blue Jays Picks, Predictions & Best Bets vs the Rays for May 15

Kevin Gausman has remained a strong presence in the Blue Jays rotation, especially at the Rogers Centre. We like him to rack up the strikeouts tonight against the free-swinging Rays with a chance to take the rubber match.

The Toronto Blue Jays evened their series with the Tampa Bay Rays on the strength of a great start from Chris Bassitt.

Now, they’ll hope for more of the same as they go for the series win in a Thursday, May 15 matinee by handing the ball to Kevin Gausman.

My Blue Jays predictions go back to the well with another MLB player prop that takes advantage of the free-swinging Rays.

Blue Jays predictions for May 15

Today’s Blue Jays best bet: Pouring Gaus on the fire

Kevin Gausman Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-125 at BetVictor)

The Toronto Blue Jays evened their series with the Tampa Bay Rays, thanks in large part to 5 2/3 strong innings from Chris Bassitt.

The Blue Jays veteran right-hander allowed just one run on seven hits while striking out six, as catcher Alejandro Kirk provided the offense with a three-run home run in the eventual 3-1 win.

The Jays will look for more of the same as they turn to Kevin Gausman in hopes of earning a rare series win against the pesky Rays.

The 34-year-old right-hander may not be as dominant as he’s been in years past, but he’s still been an effective starter. Gausman has a 3.86 expected ERA and boasts a great chase rate with that awesome splitter.

He’s also been tough to square up at the Rogers Centre this season, where Gausman is pitching to a 2.00 ERA while limiting opponents to a .161 batting average and striking out a very good 29.2% of batters faced.

I like Gausman to keep that trend going against the Rays. Tampa Bay ranks 23rd in OPS and 16th in wRC+ while having the eighth-highest strikeout rate vs. right-handed pitching this season.

Gausman also has a 26.1% K-rate against current Rays batters. All this adds up to Gausman pitching deep into this ball game and racking up the punchouts.

His strikeout prop is sitting at 5.5, a number he's cleared in four of his last six starts and two of his three at home. Give me the Over in my MLB picks for this series finale.

Today’s Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)

Kevin Gausman Over 5.5 strikeouts

Daulton Varsho Over 0.5 hits

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 1.5 total bases

The Rays counter Gausman with Zack Littell. The right-hander has been solid but could be in for a regression. Littell ranks in the 22nd percentile in xERA and the 21st percentile in xBA.

There are also some key Blue Jays bats with great numbers against the Rays’ right-hander.

Daulton Varsho has absolutely crushed him, and his power has been something the Jays lineup has desperately needed. Varsho has five home runs and a .892 OPS in his first 11 games since coming off the injured list.

He's also 4-for-9 with a double and a dinger in his career vs. Littell. That’s good for a .336 xBA and a .747 xSLG.

The other is, of course, Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Vladdy got another two knocks last night and is now hitting .346 in May with a .903 OPS. He is 3-for-5 in seven plate appearances with a .410 xBA against Littell.

Let’s add 0.5 hits for Varsho and 1.5 total bases for Vladdy to close out this series.
