The Detroit Tigers will be looking to complete the sweep today when they face the Houston Astros at Comerica Park.

Detroit sends Charlie Morton to the hill, and although he’s not the most consistent, the veteran is still striking out hitters. My Tigers vs. Astros predictions will focus on his ability to miss some bats this afternoon.

Astros vs Tigers prediction

Astros vs Tigers best bet: Charlie Morton Over 5.5 strikeouts (+122)

The Detroit Tigers went out and acquired Charlie Morton at the trade deadline from the Baltimore Orioles.

He was having a brutal campaign with the O’s after they signed him in the offseason, and landing in Detroit represents a fresh start for a guy who was not long ago one of the better starters in the National League.

Since joining the Tigers, Morton has pitched relatively well, compiling a 3.86 ERA across three starts. That includes 21 strikeouts in just 16 1/3 innings of work.

He’s cashed the Over in Ks in two of his previous three appearances and finished right on the brink of nearly making it three for three in a Detroit uniform — finishing with five punchouts last time out against the Minnesota Twins.

On the year, the veteran has 122 Ks in 117 2/3 frames. While he hasn’t faced the Houston Astros in a couple of years, they're striking out over 11 times per game across their previous three contests, despite being one of the handful of teams in the Majors that tend to put the ball in play quite often.

This is the perfect time for Morton to capitalize on the Stros’ struggles.

Astros vs Tigers same-game parlay (SGP)

The Tigers are winners in six of their last seven games and have kept Houston’s offense at bay in this series so far, collecting 10-0 and 1-0 victories. Not giving up a single run to one of the better ball clubs in the bigs is impressive.

As I mentioned, Morton has been improving, and outside of one poor outing against the Phillies, he’s shown glimpses of brilliance with his new team.

Detroit faces Framber Valdez today, and the lineup has collected a .264 average against him across 91 at-bats. The Tigers are moneyline underdogs here, which is rare. There’s huge value with the way they’ve been playing.

As we all know, Jose Altuve is a hitting machine. That’s been no different in 2025, batting .278 with 22 home runs. The infielder has a track record of success against Morton, going 6-for-21 with a double and a home run.

He’s cashed the Over in hits in three of his last four appearances as well.
