Carlos Correa has generated a lot of offense against left-handed pitching this season, hitting better than .300 with an OPS approaching .900.

Even against the prolific Tarik Skubal, my Astros vs. Tigers predictions see Correa making some noise at the dish tonight.

Let’s break it all down with my MLB picks for August 19.

Astros vs Tigers prediction

Astros vs Tigers best bet: Carlos Correa Over 1.5 hits+runs+RBI (+105)

Going against Tarik Skubal is always a scary proposition, but I see value in backing Carlos Correa. He's performed very well since returning to the Houston Astros, especially of late.

Correa has cleared his H+R+RBI line in six of the past 10 games and averaged a healthy 2.4 in that span.

More importantly, he's hit lefties well all season long. Correa is sporting a .304 average and .218 ISO vs. left-handed pitching, both totals drastically higher than against righties.

Correa has also excelled against the pitches Skubal leans on most heavily. Skubal throws a lot of changeups (34%), fastballs (31%), and sinkers (20%) against right-handed bats. Correa owns averages of .304, .355, and .286 vs. those pitches when facing southpaws.

Skubal, of course, is far from an ordinary lefty. However, he owns a more human 3.16 ERA over the last 30 days and ranks 16th among today’s projected starting pitchers in hard-hit rate allowed during that time.

Correa has seen well over 70 pitches vs. Skubal the past few years and should have a good idea of how he’s going to be attacked.

Astros vs Tigers same-game parlay (SGP)

Christian Walker has been an RBI machine of late, at least on the road. He’s driven in a run in 14 of his last 20 away from Houston, piling up 20 RBI along the way.

Power is the name of the game for Walker, and he’s hitting behind the likes of Correa, Jeremy Pena, and Jose Altuve, meaning there should be some traffic in front of him.

Hunter Brown has averaged 6.8 strikeouts per start this season and has been most prolific against left-handed bats, generating 11.5 K/9 vs. lefties.

The Detroit Tigers are expected to have five in their lineup, not to mention strikeout-prone righties like Javier Baez and Spencer Torkelson.

  • Run line: Houston +1.5 (-161) | Detroit -1.5 (+135)
