My Angels vs Yankees best bet: Clarke Schmidt Over 6.5 strikeouts (+115 at Caesars)
My betting patterns in Los Angeles Angels games have followed a straightforward method: bet on them to strike out and thus bet against the opposing pitchers on strikeouts.
Just this week, the Angels took over the top spot in baseball for most strikeouts per game on average at a whooping 9.74. That’s been even more recently, with the Halos posting an incredible 11 over the last three games. I see no reason to change my methods.
It’s not always as straightforward as picking a team that racks up a high number of strikeouts and taking the pitcher that faces them to go Over their total, but with this team, it feels like it in some ways.
A quick search reveals the last five pitchers to face L.A. have all gone Over their closing strikeout prop number, and I love Clarke Schmidt to make it six straight.
Schmidt has plenty of strikeout stuff in his arsenal, as his 70th percentile whiff and K rate would indicate. Benefiting him most in this matchup is his go-to putaway pitch, the slider. He only throws it 9% of the time, but when he does, it’s usually to end at bats, as it sits at 44% for putaway percentage.
Among players in the lineup today, there are five who have a whiff rate of over 30% against the slider. It gets even worse when you look at things strictly from a strikeout percentage perspective, as six players have had an above-league-average number against this pitch.
I’m not going to overcomplicate this one very much. He’s surpassed this number in back-to-back games, and both of those included starts that exceeded five innings.
His barrel rate and hard-hit rate — which grade out at a borderline elite level — give me confidence in him going deep, as his ability to suppress a power-oriented Angels lineup should pay off hugely. I’d play this down to -105.

If you’re looking for the best approach against New York, it would be this archetype, as the Yanks have struggled against truly elite ground-ball talents. It gives me confidence to include the Under here, and my projection of 7.7 would agree.
Cody Bellinger has the lowest ground ball rate on the Yankees roster and the third-highest hard-hit rating against the sinker — a pitch that Soriano throws over 50% of the time.
