BetMGM forecast Monday’s Home Run Derby would be a bigger wagering draw than Tuesday’s MLB All-Star Game.

Key takeaways

  • Bettors are all over Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani, and Cal Raleigh to hit home runs in the All-Star Game.
  • Sportsbooks are diving deep into player prop markets for the Midsummer Classic.
  • Ohtani leads the game’s MVP market, but bets are coming in on Ronald Acuna Jr. and Elly De La Cruz.

Based on how betting is going for the Midsummer Classic in Atlanta, it’s a true indication of how popular non-standard markets have become for sportsbooks. Player and game props were the talk of Tuesday.

“With (Tarik) Skubal and (Paul) Skenes starting, we’ll be rooting for a run in the first,” BetMGM Trading Strategy Manager Halvor Egeland said. “After that, we’re hoping the Unders hold up. Bettors are all over (Aaron) Judge, (Shohei) Ohtani, and (Cal) Raleigh to hit a home run, so we’ll be watching those swings closely.”

Judge to hit a home run at +600 is the most bet prop at BetMGM. Ohtani (+600) to go yard is second, followed by the Home Run Derby winner, Raleigh (+600) at third. Will there be a run in the first inning’s “No” is fifth with -145 odds.

That game prop market is also the most bet by handle at ESPN BET. The sportsbook told Covers that Skenes Over 1.5 strikeouts is the most-bet pitcher prop, followed by Skubal at 1.5 as well.

Sportsbooks are offering even more in-depth wagering options, like BetMGM’s market on Skubal’s fastest pitch Tuesday.

MVP market

Bettors are also diving into the All-Star Game MVP market, led by Ohtani, Pete Crow-Armstrong, Raleigh, Judge, and Ronald Acuna Jr. at ESPN BET.

BetMGM’s biggest liability in Tuesday’s MVP market is Ohtani. The Dodgers' star is getting 9.5% of the tickets and 20.2% of the handle. Crow-Armstrong is right behind with 7.6% of the bets, but Elly De La Cruz at +3,500 is attracting action as the second biggest liability, getting 6.2% of the bets and 5.1% of the handle.

Raleigh is third in liability with 6.9% of the tickets and 7.3% of the money at +1,200. Acuna (+1,100) saw 9.5% of the handle to win MVP in front of the hometown fans.

Getting in on the game

As for the game itself, DraftKings reported 61% of the handle and 52% of the bets back the -119 favored National League to win on the moneyline. However, the AL is a +162 favorite on the 1.5 runline and gets 52% of the money and 57% of the tickets.

Bettors also love the Over 7 total runs. It’s BetMGM's fourth most-bet market, with 79% of the money and 73% of the bets on the Over. DraftKings has more than 75% in both categories with -121 Over odds.
