U.S. Open Predictions, Picks and Golf Best Bets for Round 2: Morikawa Makes his Move

There are just 19 golfers under par after Round 1 of the 2025 U.S. Open. As they prep ahead of Round 2, Neil Parker explains why Collin Morikawa is in a good position to make his move inside the Top 10.

Oakmont Country Club showed its teeth in Round 1 of the 2025 U.S. Open, and J.J. Spaun is alone at the top of the leaderboard following an out-of-nowhere 66 in the opening round.

Multiple major champions are lurking, though, with Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, Collin Morikawa, Brooks Koepka, and Bryson DeChambeau all hanging with Spaun at the top of the U.S. Open odds lists.

Here are my top golf picks for Round 2 on Friday, June 13.

Best U.S. Open Round 2 predictions

Pick: Collin Morikawa End of Round Top 10
+130 at DraftKings

The putter let Collin Morikawa down in the opening round after finishing third in the field in both true strokes gained tee-to-green and on approaches. He ranked 141st in true strokes gained putting after hitting 10 of 14 fairways and 15 of 18 greens in regulation.

Morikawa had complete control of his golf ball and gave himself a number of scoring opportunities that didn’t result in circles on the card.

Still, he birdied 18 to fire an opening-round 70, and I’m anticipating better work on the greens without a huge drop in the tee-to-green play. Additionally, I also think playing in the morning wave will help Morikawa string together another solid round.

Pick: Ben Griffin Top Debutant
+150 at DraftKings

Ben Griffin headed to Oakmont Country Club scorching hot, and he picked up right where he left off to finish 14th in true strokes gained tee-to-green in Round 1 and sitting T6 after an opening-round 69.

He’s already won twice this season, and Griffin ranked sixth in true strokes gained tee-to-green and third in true strokes gained putting in this field across his past three events, which included Griffin winning the Charles Schwab and carding a T8 in the PGA Championship and solo second in the Memorial. I expect him to hang around the leaderboard all weekend.

Pick: Viktor Hovland Over Russell Henley
-105 at FanDuel

Viktor Hovland put on a ball-striking clinic in Round 1 and ranked fourth in the field in true strokes gained tee-to-green and second in true strokes gained on approach. Unfortunately, the Norwegian struggled on the greens and lost -3.06 true strokes to rank 147th in the metric of the 156 players.

Russell Henley, on the other hand, strung together a tidy card with 16 pars, a birdie, and a bogey. He only hit seven of 14 fairways, though, and finished 100th in true strokes gained off-the-tee. Simply put, if Henley puts that much pressure on his short game again in Round 2, he’ll put more squares on the card.

Returning to Hovland, his ball-striking can afford to slip without a major impact on his score, and I’m expecting improved work with the putter Friday. He had gained true strokes on the greens in consecutive events leading into the U.S. Open, after all.
