The only thing wrong about this statement is that Vinci wasnt dead, she was playing possum with her younger opponent... that match barely sniffed the the 2 hr mark and Vinci was playing at a very fast tempo in the first two sets and then slowed in down considerabley down a break in the 3rd... Was it a factor, who knows, but she wasnt tired, she was just getting out paced and outplayed by Begu
anyone I am done... you are right, dubb should just take his win and move on... I just wanted to talk about the match a little... but clearly this is not a forum for that.. It should be, but it isnt
Playing possum?
Are you serious?
She could hardly move. She was breathing heavy after every point. Putting her hands on her knees in enhaustion. She was so dead tired and what was worse is that Bengu was playing superb. For you to say she wasnt playing tired is laughable. She was talking forever between points and even got warned by the ump to hurry up. Sorry buddy but she was no playing possum. She was getting utterly dominated and was getting worn out. The only thing that saved her was a epic collapse. There was no possum about it whatsoever.
Bengu makes that shot at 4-2 30-40 95% of the time and this time she didnt and afterwards felt sorry for herself and went away. I gurantee if you asked Vinci about the victory she would say she feels very lucky.

So she was getting outpaced and outplayed by Bengu but was playing possum?
That makes no sense. No one lose's 10 of 13 games because your trying to trick your opponent. Bengu had a simple shot to go up 2 breaks in the final set and it was because she was playing premium tennis and Vinci looked totally gassed. It was not one player playing possum. She was tired and was getting bossed in basically every point. Then Bengu starts to implode (and I mean implode, going from holding with ease, to basically getting broke at love) and Vinci started to get some life due to seeing her opponent starting to feel the pressure.
Im not going to argue this anymore. Anyone that actually watched the match should be able to be objective and see that Bengu was dominating, Vinci was fatigued, but then Bengu starts to choke and it gives Vinci energy and belief she can still pull it out. Vinci simply just stayed in the court while Bengu went away.

its not an argument.. I am just trying to state my analysis of the match for the record... To say it was a total collapse to me is not telling the whole story.. Begu was playing well and then her first serve went away, Vinci slowed down tempo and it really got to Begu to the level where she started dumping returns... yes Begu collapsed but Vinci is the type of dirty, frustrating player that a collapse like that is possible against, if Begu plays Vinci again she wins because she will not let Vinci dictate the tempo of the match... That is what I feel really but Begu over the edge and aided her collapse... Begu would have taken this match in a tiebreaker if she had gotten the match to one...

possum to me means slowing the pace down without reason for the sake of getting into players head.. i will concede that Vinci was more fatigued then Begu but she went from taking 4-5 seconds between serves to nearly 25-30 secs in the matter of a game... that is the definition of possum.. she was overacting tired to buy more time... I though she would call for a trainer the second she broke back... But she didnt bother cause she knew she owned Begu mentally and smelled blood

No see, watching this match certainly showed it was a CLEAR epic collapse.
Collapse's are so very common in WTA but the shots Bengu missed where hilariously bad. That point at 4-2 to break to go up 5-2 was a miss that she will never forget. She then couldnt even get the ball in the singles court. Basically every stroke she was hitting a unforcer error. She couldnt make first serves. She was double faulting. She couldnt make standard volleys.
I understand that a opponent like Vinci that gets alot of balls back and induce and collapse but the rallys werent even going more then 2-3 shots. Bengu was making a error on the 2nd or 3rd time the ball toucher her racket, sometimes even the first. This was a match that she lost. She was in total control, she had won 10 of the last 13 games. She had bp points in all of Vinci's service games up until the collapse.
Yes I lost money but it wasnt much. This was my very first time ever watching Bengu so I made it a point to see how she played once she felt pressure and took notes of how the choke went down. Vinci really didnt do much. Go rewatch that 3rd set and see how many UE's came on unpressured shots, easy forehands, easy backhands, double faults, missed volleys.
Congratz Vinci backers, but this was a massive Bengu choke.
