this is EXACTLY what i said in post # 10:

"but, i believe it really is what they say - a draw.  after 1 and 2, it goes into a hopper of 3,4, then 5,6, etc, and they literally "draw" it out of a hat or hopper to see who goes where."

i tend to agree with you, but you wana be careful trying to change generations worth of what has been done a certain way, just because the top 3 players right now happen to be the clear top players with a dropoff at number 4 with andy,

besides, rafa should have been the top seed based on winning last year, not to mention 6 of the past 7 overall, and also the fact his recent form was beating djoko the last 2 on clay

rafa should have been the 1 seed, period. when it comes to clay and grass, the special surfaces, i think the seeding should be based on prior year results and most recent form on the surface, as opposed to the overall ranking.

this applies mostly to clay where the results are typically much much different than any other type of surface

no its not stupid 

if it was done like you say, then if a group of 4 dominate then its always the same players playing each other in the semis. this way its a bit more interesting

in pro racquetball its always the #1 seed vs the #16 seed in the rd of 16, and that is boring as hell. 

In tennis #1 could play #9 in the rd of 16

I like it interesting and a bit unpredictable

I vouch novak. Loook at their head to head record in last 3 years and their clay court record is quite competitive.
