Gauff is the most overrated player on tour - the market almost religiously values her lower than she should be.

So this is the final nail in the coffin for me - that you have absolutely no idea what you are doing.

Don't mention the frogs - we don't want to scare the toddler - we want him to sleep

it's not always the case.  he has had some good runs in the past and many times he was on a side of sharp money

it looks like sharp money is on badosa and probably rightfully so ..badosa has played extremely well this tournament and gauff hasn't played anyone yet besides Osaka who had to retire.  Gauffs serve has been inconsistent, including many double faults.  even without the double faults, if gauff can't get her first serve in, badosa with tee off

Betting is not about winning or losing - it is about getting paid more than the chance would suggest (and then adjust betting stake accordingly).

Ever since lines were invented! an_light

The public determines what the line ultimately is. The original line is a mere suggestion. Always has been and always will be.

I would suggest looking up the difference between # of bets and handle

typically a public play is referred to the higher # of bets on a particular side, but that does not mean the handle is higher on that side

there are also very frequently reverse line movements

"Public money" is just a phrase used to describe people who bet on emotions, gut feelings, etc. Basically anyone who doesn't care what odds they get.

It is basically just a reference point to distinguish them from "sharp money", which is basically the opposite.

Opening odds are a combination of "true underlay odds" x "what do we expect the public money to bet on".

Then, as we get closer to the start of the game or match, most of the sharps come in and take advantage of any "errors" the public money has forced the odds to move away from the game's true underlaying odds.

    - so most market moves that happen before a few hours before the match begin is almost entirely done by the "public money" because the "sharps" often also need the liquidity of the market

Don't mention the frogs - we don't want to scare the toddler - we want him to sleep

You have had all day and this is the best you came up with ? - Maybe this would be more fitting: "Hi guys I know I made a bad bet here - but I were very lucky - thank God and thank you all for giving me a reality check"

    @Calde13

the other terrifying part is how he begins to up the size of his bets after he loses, this was almost a massive disaster for him.

i think tank knows his tennis and i have defended him in various threads. but the fact he doesn’t answer any questions or remarks towards him and does extremely degenerate betting practices kind of makes his insight irrelevant.
