Amazing tennis from Ernests. Hopefully people can see the talent he has now. He ripped through Berdych. Hit right through him. Was a massive beatdown. Hopefully he can maintain the same focus and give Djokovic a match. Great effort today

He's beaten Joker 5 years ago but is 1-4 against him
He's 0-7 against Nadal but I don;t have all the handicappers numbers from that far back but it doesn't look like Nadal has ever covered a game spread against him. Every match was really close
He's 2-2 against Federer
He's got a respectable record. The new and improved Gulbis can't be compared with the old one. He might get rolled by Joker next but the talent is there.

"Gulbis should win. Berdych aint that good on clay. "
Beating Berdych will NEVER and i say NEVER win you a grand slam title. I was confident Gulbis would pull it off against this guy.
I never said he would win this tournament. Ever. Never even thought it. But what more do you need to be impressed by him. At the current level, Nadal, Joker and Ferrer are better. He's probably a toss up vs Murray in current form. You can't give me another player he's not a favorite against.
I just appreciate his talent. You won't find me saying he'll win this thing or any major yet. But with the strides he's taken over the past 2 seasons if he continues he will be a threat for the next 2 or 3 years. If he doesn't than he won't be. That's all.

His performance was excellent today. Really good. No credit taken away from him from my side that is. But it aint getting him nowhere and i dont think Berdych is an amazing player to beat on the clay courts. If it had been Ferrer or someone else that can grind all night long, then YES that would have been something truly amazing. I would actually love to see him up against Ferrer, could be great, but Djokovic will be too much for him to handle at this point in time. Do you know what this thread is about, do you know what it is stating? "Could Gulbis be the dark horse - winner of the grand slam" and NO he CANT and he WONT. Gulbis aint going anywhere. I give Gulbis credit for his way of playing today, it was good. He was serving really good (i always said that the guy has a good service game, and its even better on grass) and he was hanging in every game of Berdychs service game almost. But with that said, you also gotta say that Berdych was totally away from the window, Gulbis came up with rather bad drop shots time after time that Berdych didnt approach, had he done that against someone like Nadal or Ferrer or even Joker then he would have been punished for providing them with such balls and points. I remember last year (i think it was) against Tsonga i was pretty amazed with his serve and could have gone far, that was a time to do it where he showed good play too (i dont think he has improved since that time, hes still the same player, so if you think its good thats fine - but it will never be enough to take a major title).

Here you see the difference between ELITE players.
Elite players = Player that win grand slams
and then Gulbis. You see, Gulbis played Berdych and played him very well, he made drop shots etc. but that aint gonna get you nowhere. Gulbis won points off drop shots and stupid things like that, points he shouldnt have won but because he got those points like a "gift". Are you gonna get any gifts from Djokovic? Not like those you got from Berdych, thats for sure. He will punish you for making stupid drop shots like those he made against Berdych, you simply wont be rewarded for doing that, he was rewarded for that in the Berdych match.
Still only 3-2 but already you can see gulbis sailing around on the court.

I don't know why you are patting yourself on the back. Gulbis has handled himself beautifully today. Never have up when most players autofold in that spot. Nobody said he's better than joker. Of course we can spot the two elite players on your. There are exactly two of them. Joker and Nadal. U can throw in Murray on grass and fast surfaces. All I've ever said is Gulbis has phenomenal talent and can easily be a top 5 or 6 player in the next few years. Props to him
