Bouzas Maneiro, Jessica
Fernandez, Leylah Annie -263
After winning the Washington WTA 500 event and playing some of her best tennis.
Leylah got a rude awakening last week as she lost in the veery first round to Maya Joint 6-4 6-1 putting up artificial energy and very little real fighting spirit in the loss.
Now, two weeks has passed and life on the circuit has moved on, she has now had her celebratory time from her big win in Wash. and she knows that she has to be focused, grind and fight to win matches again.
Most professional players are motivated when they have to defend points, and Leylah has a lot of points to defend for the rest of the year and at this tourney where last year she got to the quarters.
So, I am confident that she will compete and fight, grind and claw today. That’s all I ask of a player when I am wagering on them. The key for me is to find / identify a player that I know is fully motivated and focused to dig deep to try for the “W”.
Jessica Bouzas Manerio is no slouch, and she competes well and fights strongly. She has had a great season so far and played extremely well at Wimbledon & at the Canadian Open last week, however she struggled IMHO on opening day in the 1 round in Cincinnati in putting 45 yr old Venus Williams away 6-4 6-4 allowing Venus to hang around.
I watched the match in its entirety and J. B. Manerio was not toying or playing around, she just was not able to punish Venus and put her away easily and comfortably the way that she should at age 22 and the way she's performed lately.
She has played 43 matches this year since starting her season on hard courts in China on Xmas day before flying to Australia for several small tourneys ahead of the Australia open. 43 matches over 21 tournaments and she still has 4 and half months left in this 2025 season. That is a lot of tennis and a lot traveling already.
I feel that today I am getting a slightly better player in Leylah, and a much more rejuvenated and fresher legs player and a more focused and motivated player in Leylah.
Leylah IMHO has slightly more weapons at her disposal. PLUS ..........…she’s a lefty which almost always most right-handed players don’t like playing against, no matter their level or ranking.
As always in wagering on ladies’ tennis it’s like opening a box of cracker Jacks, you don’t fully know what you are getting until you open the box.
Leylah -263
