Muchova plays a somewhat similar style to Ons Jabeur and to many other women, who all play an almost junk ball / backboard type game. Their games are more defensive in posture than offensive.
Basically, they are more willing to grind than Maddy is. They take far less chances than Maddy does. They are normally more aggressive only when they are in a better court position to win a point or ahead 30-0 or 40-15 in points in a game.
Whereas we all know that Maddy fires away utilizing pure power from any angle / position on court to win a point or to shorten the length of rallies.
Maddy has been trying all her career to harness the power and be more patient. She has always been a work in progress. However, she still reverts to pure power when under presuure or when she realizes that a rally has gone past 8 shots.
When she is ……“On”………. there are few women that can absorb and withstand her pure power and her pure winners, however when she is not firing on all cylinders her “Plan B” is very weak and her patience normally gets the better of her and her unforced errors rises significantly.
Friday Caty McNally gave her a lot of difficulty in a 3 setter and today I see K. Muchova with her assortment of shots and finesse and almost junk ball type game hanging in there with my +3.5 games to get me a cover.
I think that K. Muchova can somehow, someway hang around today to get Maddy frustrated and lose patience and composure.
However, if Maddy has her “A” game today I will just have to take the “L” and move on.

On paper Osaka should win this matchup straight forward without any drama or pressure.
However, I think this is a good spot for me taking A. Sevastova a Latvian ranked #386. She has won 3 matches, all 3 setters this week.
She had a baby then she came back and immediately had a torn ACL injury, so she's been in recovery / rebuilding mode all at the late singles playing tennis age of 35.
She was once ranked #11 and this week beat #4 Pegula & #34 Linette & #88 Tomljanovic, which shows that she can still play and hang and has a little left in the tank and not get blown out.
Naomi has parted ways with Patrick Mouratoglou a few days before this tourney started and she has a lot going on in her head after the Washington Tournament.
I think that Naomi’s focus and motivation levels will be way down after 3 wins so far this week and she just wants a “W” anyway she can get it against any opponent and she just wants to move on to the next round.
Whereas I will get a motivated, spirited fighting player in Sevastova today who's future in singles is right now.
Taking Sevastova with the +5.5 games.
