Australian Maya Joint, who holds a miniscule 1-0 lead in their head-to-head record, winning their only match to date, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(10), at the 2025 Eastbourne Open
Why is Eala a heavy favorite over Joint? I know Eala has improved—could someone enlighten me
I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it.

From a neutral perspective, I’m trying to understand if this is mainly about current form, or if the odds are heavily influenced by longer-term expectations. I would appreciate any insight from someone who’s followed both players more closely.

Eala has been in great form while Joint is having a terrible season. Before beating Serena she hadn't won a match since January. She did play fairly well in her win though. Joint is a good grass player when she's playing well.
It is unknown how the win over Serena will affect her moving forward. On one hand she could gain confidence from it and use that confidence to get her season back on track. Even though she's 44 she's still the goat so joint could really sell the accomplishment to herself to boost her confidence. On the other hand I could see that match as having been emotionally draining for her as well. Also when you get into the rhythm of playing only one match a week sometimes it gets hard to actually break out of that rhythm.
I personally don't see value on either side. Good luck

Appreciate the insight. I’ve been leaning toward Joint +1.5 sets at even odds, but I’m still holding off for now until I’m fully confident in the read.

Unbelievable comeback from Alexandra Eala. That was a great match.
Shereally flipped the momentum when it looked like the match was slipping away—those kinds of turnarounds usually come down to staying steady on serve and forcing errors at the right moments..
