Our Italian got off to a slow start down a double break in the first set at 1-4 before turning on the burners and winning 12 of the next 16 games for a convincing victory. I don't know if it was nerves or what in the beginning but I turned the match on when it was 4-4 and Paolini's game looked excellent from there, she just couldn't quite convert the double break in the second set to cover our spread. The match does leave me feeling good about her level moving forward though.

Putintseva has withdrawn at the last minute, joining Rybakina as the second Russian-born Kazakh to withdraw. Perhaps the committee spiked her breakfast as they feared the optics of Putin(tseva) potentially conquering the Ukranian. Kidding, of course.

Kostyuk now gets Lulu Sun. Don't know the odds yet and not sure how Marta will handle the sudden change of plans so NO PLAY, at least for now.

I don't want to speak for him but if you read his comments in my thread from yesterday I think it's a major play and definitely THE play for him today. His superstition might prevent him from starting a thread before this match though. Which is probably a good sign for those who like to tail his plays.

Thanks I just looked at the TV bike riding & lots of rain.

Everything & everyone is going to be mixed up & off schedule so I hope it clears up for future events.
