Seems to distort / stretch everything sideways a little bit.  Is there a way to calibrate this to actual sizes?

Or is that what actual sizes look like?  I'm coming from a 15" regular monitor and now using a 20" widescreen.

you will have to look up what the default resolution for your monitor is and set it to that, it will look fine when it is set to what it should be set to for the monitor.  google it
