weird internet problem I'm having..hope some 1 can help

 

..for some reason, I am unable to access the cbssportsline.com website.

 

along with covers.com and several others (espn, cnn, etc.), it's a website I visit and have visited every day with no problem whatsoever.....today, however, no dice.

 

I know the cbssportsline.com website is up and running fine because a couple of my friends say they can

access it on their computers with no problem.

 

what's strange is that it is the only web destination giving me this problem. all the other places I routinely visit on a daily basis (covers, espn, ussportspages, cnnsi, etc.) I am able to access like I usually do...

 

..any ideas as to why this problem with cbssportsline is occurring? and what I can do to remedy it?

Do the usual of clearing your cache and cookies.  Reboot, if this does not work then re-install java.  www.java.com

 

Oh yeah, download Flash again also.

...cleared my cache... cleared my cookies...re-booted.... still couldn't get cbssportsline to load...

 

so, re-installed java... downloaded flash.... re-booted...

 

..still, nothing as far as cbssportsline is concerned.... it appears to be the only site on the entire

world wide web that doesn't want to load... every other site I use I am having no problems with,

just cbssportsline

What exactly is the site doing when you try to load it?  Error messages and such?

 

 

..basically nothing happens.... the lower left corner says.."waiting for https://www.cbssportsline.com/

..nothing happens...then after 30-40 secs, I get a 504 gateway timeout message  that says

 

GATEWAY TIMEOUT

The following error occurred:

 

[code=GATEWAY_TIMEOUT] A gateway timeout occurred.The server is unreachable.Retry the request

 

Please contact the administrator.

 

 

That means for some reason your computer isn't responding fast enough to thier servers.  (Slow IP communication) There is a router somwhere in the path that's getting pounded, getting ready to crap out or you just have too much traffic somewhere in the network.

 

By any chance do you have a router?

 

If not, it's out of your hands right now.  Keep checking every 30 minutes or so.  Better yet, if you have access to another computer try it out.  Or call someone else that lives in your area to try it out.

 

For the hell of it, download firefox and see it you can access it that way.

 

 

 

 don't have a router...   by the way, downloaded firefox and still couldn't get it...

 

 ...stupid question here...  my hi-speed internet connection is obviously working (except for ONE SPECIFIC GODDAMNED WEBSITE!!), so it's not a connectivity issue per se..... and I know the website itself is up-and-running (I've had three different people in the the city here access it on their computers...unfortunately, none live in my immediate area/neighborhood however..and besides, they have different ISP's than mine)....so, at some point, should I notify my ISP about this??  the problem is about 20 hrs. old (I first noticed it Wednesday evening), so I'm not confident the issue is going to magically resolve itself...

Try pinging the website to see if you get a response.

 

In XP

 

Start

Run

type Ping www.sportsline.com

 

See if it times out for you.

Also, where it didn't work with firefox either tells me that the problem is not on your computer. Where your friends are on different ISP's it wasn't a true test if the network is having problems.  Ping and get back to me.

 

Well in fact, if the pinging comes back with no response you should probably call your isp and see it there is a problem.
