Depends on how much you want to put it. You may of just gotten a lemon with the Dell. For the most part they really are pretty mucht the same. Sony Vaio is a step above and the Dell XPS series is also a step above.
Personally I rent just Toshiba laptops to my convention customers, but I've had good luck with HP/Compaq also.

I am buying a laptop tomorrow, and everybody and their brother has told just to get the cheapest one out there, since all I'm going to use it for is to go wireless and watch MLB.TV upstairs in my bedroom.
don't get anything with a Celeron processor
Is there a reason for this?

The reason I mentioned the Celeron is that a friend of mine has a side biz building/fixing computers, & he told me 80-90% of the units given to him for repair have Celerons in them. I didn't press him for details but he recommended that I spend a little more for a unit with a better processor. I don't utilize my laptop to its max by any means, but I took his advice & have had no issues with mine (Pentium M). Lippsman, I'm sure, knows more than I do about this stuff so I'd take his advice/recommendations.
