There's a very slight and constant gray colored 2 inch stripe down the right side of the moniter when the computer is on. Now there's a very slight off color rainbow patch developing next to it.
Is the moniter nearing it's final days?
I need to spend money on a new computer like I need a hole in the head.
Thanks for any life saving measures I might be able to take.

You could buy an external monitor at a place where you can return it no questions asked. Best Buy would be one place. Hook it up and see if it's Laptop monitor or your graphics card or something like that. If it works fine, you could spend $120 on a nice new monitor instead of a laptop. Or, if you have an LCD TV, hook it up to that to see if the line disappears? Actually, and old school TV would work also, if you have an S-Video cord.

Now that I think about it, just buy a S video cord if you don't have one and hook it up to any TV that is compatible. The cord is 20 bucks or so. Better/easier than buying a monitor. If you still have the line, just return the cord.

BK. I've got cords all over the place but none of which I have a clue as to the function. I'll just run buy one and give it a go.
Is there any 'test' I can run on this Toshiba to see if maybe it'll diagnose itself? Probably a ridiculous fantasy in the computer world but thought I'd ask anyway..
The rainbow pink square is growing as fast as a newborn Wildabeast.
Thanks again for your help.

sorry, that cracked me up. S-Video cord is one single cord, with a circular end with prongs inside. Hmmm, I'll find a pic.

Sounds like your LCD is going belly up. Depending on the model you can get a replacement LCD for less than $200. Probably about $125, depending on the size, as long as it's not a 17". But of course you have to add about an a hour of labor to it
