need advice on IE6 or 8

i was happy with 6 but never downloaded 7 because of the warnings from several articles. i did download IE8 but i hate having to always hit the compatability button over and over and over....just to read simple pages.
 
should i deal with it or switch back to 6? what happened to 7?
 
i am not a computer expert so i worry i will lose important updates to protect my computer.
 
ant suggestions?

7 is in use.  In fact I'm using it now.  I'm waiting a bit longer before I put 8 into use.
