It depends on what channels are available in HD.

I currently think there are less than 20 channels available from most cable providers.

Do you have EDTV on the plasma?

Go to the cable company website and see what options they have. You will see better reception with the plasma than regular TV, even with the lack of HD.

I know that my cable company requires subscription to HD service to get the higher quality feed, even if you have a HD tv.

I have a 42 inch Panasonic plasma and it has ED technology which means even regular feed is improved no matter what. I dont see a ton of difference between HD movies I have rented and the ED regular tv quality.

So first if you DO subscribe to the HD service, then get a list of what the cable company offers in HD. If not and you want it, subscribe to the service if it makes sense.

Also, do you have extended cable subscription?

With Cox cable here I have to buy regular cable which is like 40 channels..then I had to buy extended cable which gets you the rest. Then I also have most all pay channels and I have the DVR box on top of that.
