LCD TV - 720p or 1080p?

Question

Ok, I don&#x27;t know much here.I&#x27;m gonna get a couple Sharp Aquos (37 in and 46 in) for our new house, but I need to know about these display resolution levels.As I understand it, the 1080p is for gamers, but I will only be using it for movies, sports, and regular Tv. Is this right?I&#x27;d like to get the ones with 720 b/c they are cheaper (save some $) and I&#x27;m gonna be spending a shitload, but if the picture/technology is that much better then I&#x27;ll step up a level.Anyone with any knowledge here, I&#x27;d appreciate it.

i haven&#x27;&#x27;t read lipps thread but i would go 1020p if your going to use it as a monitor , hook up a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse and you can sit back on the sofa or where ever and you can watch movies off your hard drive.

Also the P will be better if you have a PS3 or Xbox 360, Blu-Ray or HD player.  &#xD;&#xA; &#xD;&#xA;But.....But........that&#x27;s all it will be good for.  There is no P broadcasting so don&#x27;t buy it for that.  Nothing broadcast on TV is in that standard

Like Lipps said, 1080p isn&#x27;t worth the extra money unless you plan on playing video games OR watching Blu-Ray movies on it.  Also, the vast majority of people have a difficult time seeing the difference on monitors smaller than 50 inches.I have both 720p and 1080p TV&#x27;s.  My recommendation:  save yourself some cash and go with the 720p.Good luck

I have both a 1080p and a 720p and I can&#x27;t tell the difference visually. For those that stipulate that the 1080p is for gaming, I have the PS3 hooked up to both and I don&#x27;t notice anything dramatic either. &#xD;&#xA; &#xD;&#xA;42" Panasonic Viera 1080p (sports and television viewing)&#xD;&#xA;32" Sony Bravia XBR 720p (hooked to the PS3 for gaming and blue ray movies)&#xD;&#xA; &#xD;&#xA;Point is, unless you&#x27;ve superhuman eyesight, stick with the 720p as I believe most people&#x27;s eyesight can&#x27;t differentiate beyond the contrast ratio of 500:1.&#xD;&#xA; &#xD;&#xA;My 2 cent.

As jrock said, the difference on smaller sets is hard to see. If you were going with a 55-70" set then you may benefit some from the 1080P. Even so, there's nothing wrong with saving $$ by getting a 720P. It's not like the PQ will be bad.
