Ipod help please

I have 450+ songs on my ipod and I am trying to add more. Everytime I try it says there is not enough room to add. So I deleted about 10-15 songs and I still get the same message. Obviously, if I take 10-15 songs off there should be enough room to add 1 song. I did the usual turn on/off ipod, restart computer, etc but cant figure out why I cant add more songs. Anyone have this problem before?
