I just bought a new TV - I need some help

I just bought a Sharp Aquos 37" LCD 720p for our new house. Now I've hooked it up and the picture is really not very good - it's grainy.

I had our earlier model 19" Sharp Aquos from our bedroom hooked up the same exact way until this one came and the picture was excellent, very crisp. So....wtf happened?

I'm not expecting hi-def here, but at least a crisp picture. I have it hooked up with the yellow, white, red cables. I have Comcast Digital Cable.

Aside from getting a HD cable box, is this enough info for someone to help me get a pic I should be getting?

Ok, first thing get rid of those YW and R cables.

 

Go ahead and get that HD box.  Now where your TV is only 720P you are not going to ge the mac daddy pic like on some of the screens.  But it's still pretty good. You should have a HDMI connector on the TV.  Run the HDMI cable from your hi-def cable box to the TV and you will see a great picture

Also, what kind of TV do you suggest for my 2nd one? More for Sports and Movies? Any favorites?

I love Samsung, you pay more, but it's worth it.

 

You must have a cable that's "tweaked"  a short or a hairline break somewhere.

tito - I agree with Lipps in regard to your fix (or at least an initial stage).  You may also want to run a DVD through and see if the picture is still grainy.  If it's not then it's isolated to your CABLE which a good start is the box.  If the box doesn't fix then you may look into your cable lines in the house.

 

If you have the one going to the main TV (or the one you're working with) split too many times your signal could be derriorating with each split.  Once generally isn't a problem but sometimes two or more can cause trouble.  The less splits the better.  Also, gold tips on splitters, cables, etc. does help signal carry better.  If all of this fails (box, cable, gold, etc.) then it may be time to get the cable co. involved.  Sometimes they have to amplify a signal for you.  Most cable co.'s are interested in making your viewing experience good as that way you're more likely to stay with them and keep paying their outrageous bill. :-)
