I bought a new laptop (small little guy so it doesn't have a built CD/DVD drive).
I have a copy of Office Professional (2003) on CD that I want to install on this laptop but given that I don't have a CD/DVD drive is there any way I can do this (without getting an external CD/DVD drive).
I tried copying the files to a USB memory stick which seemed to have worked (the actual copying of the files) but when I tried to install from the program from the USB stick it gave me an error message (said something like "Installation aborted files not from original source") ... so, it basically knew i copied the files from the CD to the memory stick ...
Any other suggestions as to how this can be accomplished?
Thanks.

if you know how to use burning software, you could make an .iso file of the Office CD and then copy that file from your desktop computer to the Wind with the USB drive.
Next, download this. It is basically a program that emulates a CD-Rom drive. Install it on the Wind.
Start the CD emulator program and locate the .iso file and see if it installs for you this way. Don't see why it won't, unless the Office CD has some copy protection to prevent copying the CD correctly.

why would you return the external cd drive after you load office on your laptop? The drives are so damn cheap now, why not just keep it? It will always come in handy.
People on this site brag about how many thousands they bet, yet we got a guy here to cheap to buy a cd drive. Truly amazing.
