I run AVG 7.5, but, my limited cyberknowledge tells me that is just something that looks for viruses.
 
Do you recommend any free downloads that look for spy-ware, or anyone that must be purchased, but, does the job.
 
I read the article you posted about "beat back spy-ware", but, it left me more confused than Barney Frank at Hooters.

There a few versions of AVG 7.5, they have the spyware version, virus version and a combo meal of both.
 
Here is the page of all of the different versions. Download the Antimalware version, that one has virus and spyware protection.
