I just paid for the updates but for some reason I can't download them. I am continually being asked to enable cookies even after I have already done so. Contacting their customer service has been impossible. I'm fairly inept when it comes to this stuff so any advice/help would ne appreciated.

Hey Lipps. Finally got it to downlaod. Had to unistall the ancient version of McAfee I was using as well as Spybot and AdAware. But now the Microsoft Windows(XP) Anti-Virus program runs automatically after start up telling me I still have al these infections. Setting McAfee as my default didn't help.

Hold on......stop there........don't pass go......go directly to jail.
Windows Anti-virus program........You gotta' problem there my friend. Microsoft doesn't make a anti-virus program. You have some serious spyware on your computer.
First thing is to go to control panel and then add/remove programs. See if Winantispyware is listed there. If so uninstall it

That doesn't sound good. There is an icon onmy toolbar. It is shaped like a shield. It looks almost exactly like the one for windows security center in the control panel. When I click on the toolbar icon it says Antivirus 2008 (no mention of windows or microsoft). I tried to change the settings to keep it from starting with windows, scanning at startup, and scanning every hour but it won't let me change them. When I try to close the window it prompts me to get the license number so I can register.
I tried what you said under add/remove programs but don't see any that match it. Any other suggestions?

Thanks. The site it links me to is antivirus-scanner.com. Did some research and like you said, it's bad news. One recommendation was to go to task manager, then processes, then to temp disable iexplore.exe but the only option is to end process so I haven't done anything yet.

Tried everything from the Dhop thread and none of them recognized it as a threat. Also tried Windows Defender. I think I took care of it though. After the spyware/antivirus program came on I opened the task manager to get the file name. I clicked on processes then ended the process. This kept it from running but didn't remove it from my computer. Then I did a search for the file. When it came up I scanned it with both AVG and McAfee. Thought it a little disturbing that neither found it to be a threat. Anway, having the file isolated on the search page I simply deleted it. I've shutdown and started my computer a few times now and it hasn't come back up so far.
Thanks for all your help and ideas. Very informative. Feel like I learned a lot.
