MLB Beat The Streak (BTS) Tracking Thread

Will be tracking my BTS Method Picks here.

A little history.....

I've been playing this game for over ten years and never had time to really dig into doing meaning research in finding a hitter for the day. Thanks to Covid, I was out of work for three months. When I finally went back, my doctor put me on a part time schedule of 20 hours a week. That was a blessing in disguise. I've always worked a six day, ten hour schedule and had no time to do any research for the contest. This year I do have the time and I've found a method (strategy) that got me to a streak of 15. Playing BTS years prior, I never got pass six.

I was posting on another board, but didn't like the format. This is easier to use, like a blog.

My BTS Method is based on Match Ups. Pitcher vs Batter. It's time consuming, but has been very successful.

Using the same Method, I found that it was successful in picking MLB sides and O/U. I won't list them here, but usually will put the picks in the King of Covers contest.

Here's a sample of what I will be tracking. I composed an email to myself to track the picks today. Time permitting, will try to do it before the games start. 

I have a few rules that I try to follow. I'll share them later. Anyways, that's it for now.

I ended up choosing Santader and Hays. Hays didn't get a hit.

 Starting new method. Sticking with original (1), but added a subset (2).

Day 1- May 3, 2023

Streak at 0.

Gas Can Pitcher of the Day: Cinn/Cessa vs SD Lineup

Since I started doing this strategy, I've never had so many hitters in one lineup that had an(X+10) rating. Everyone is the lineup had it exept for Sullivan. Kim and Sullivan didn't qualify to make the cut, although Kim did have an (X+10). That's never happened before so I'll keep an eye on that one. Only Carpenter made the Subset cut.

Because one of my rules is to not pick anyone with a hitting streak of 5+or more, I would have to rule out Soto. He has a hitting streak of 5. 

Another rule is to try and not pick the most popular picks of the day. After reading a couple of boards, I see everyone is on Bogaert and Tatis, both of which are very good choices, but, I would have to use caution if going with them today. 

Don't know who I'm going with right now. Need to read a little more.

*NOTE: As I mentioned above, I've also found this matchup strategy is very successful in picking MLB games and the O/U. The King of Covers contest is all messed up today, but I think they will get it fixed in a little while. Much to my surprise when I checked my picks, I dug myself out of the minus column. Before tracking the strategy picks in the Covers Contest, I think I was at -11,600. When I went to check today, I was at +1940.

Yesteday going 8-5 Sides and 10-3 O/U.

I think today's best bet would be SD 1st/5. I don't gamble and don't pay attention to the odds, but I do visit and read several gambling forums and follow certain posters. One guy always parlays 1st/5 an ML . If I were a gamble gal, I would probably do a 3 leg parlay, add the OVER9 to the first two. Geez, I just realized, SD is -260. Doesn't matter, with the lineup matchup I just did, it says they win easily. We'll see.

I went with Tatis.......no hit yet. I also checked the MBL contest and saw they made some corrections. I am still in the minus, but slowly getting out of the hole. Top of the 7th, SD 7-1. Need 3 more runs to hit my fake 3 leg parlay!!!!

Day 1 Summary

Today's lesson falls under the "Do as I say, not as I do" category.

I broke a rule and deserved a no-hit day. I said I try not to pick the most popular picks of the day because those the ones that clear the leaderboard. Well, I read the boards; a lot of posters went with Tatis and Bogaerts. So, out of all of the strategic picks for today, everybody got hits except those two.

If you want to win this game, you really need discipline, patience, and a hell of a lot of good luck.

On to day 2.

Oh BTW, I assumed everyone knows what BTS is. For those who don't, it's a simple contest. You can one or two players daily. Each player must get a hit or your streak goes back to 0. First to get a streak of 57 hits in a row wins $5.6 Million Dollars. If no one gets there, longest streak of the season get you $10,000. Google search BTS to play. It's free, but very frustrating.....and good luck, you'll need it.

Day 2 May 4, 2023

CUBS/Taillon vs WAS/Corbin

Today's Gas Can Pitcher is: Patrick Corbin.

I did the lineups for both teams and clearly the Cubs should win this game. Every Cub made the cut except for Amaya.

The two that made the Subset cut were Suzuki and Wisdom, Top Picks for today. Yesterday, Sullivan didn't make the cut, but had a double and a home run. Amaya falls in the same boat today, so since I am at 0, I have nothing to lose. Let's see what happens.

While doing the numbers for this game, I noticed it was almost exactly the same as yesterday. SD was the clear winner and although CINN had very bad numbers, they had a lot of hits, but only one run. So, like yesterday, my fake parlay would be CUBS 1st/5 and CUBS ML. Now, I am not too sure about the O/U. 

Game on! Good luck to me....I sure need it! Go CUBS!

Day 2 Summary

Well, my Gas Can Pitcher came to play with a full tank of gas today. Gave up only 3 hits. 

Well, as far the picks goes, the two Top Picks got their hits. I took Wisdom but couldn't take Suzuki cause he had a hitting streak of 5. Well, now he has a hitting streak of 6 and mine sits at 0......sigh. Others who made the cut but didn't get a hit were Swanson, Happ and Velaquez. This game sure keeps you humble. Tough nut to crack. That's two days in a row the Top Picks got their hits. I guess I have to be like the Kenny Rogers song that says, "you gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em". In my case it's know when to break my rules and know when not to. So, I should double think(is there such a thing?) breaking my rules when looking at the Top Picks of the Day. I also ended up taking Amaya. He had strong numbers, but not strong enough to make the "Strategy Method" cut. He had a sac fly that would've been a home run had the game been played at Fenway or Minute Maid Park. Maybe next time....will keep an eye on him.

One thing I learned from playing this game over the years is, once your hitting streak ends, it's very hard to get another one going. It happens with the players too. If you look at their game logs after their hitting streak ends, it's hard for them to get another one going. We are all in the same boat.

Oh yeah, I also lost my fake parlay and my survivor pick. My contest picks went 3-4 today. Nobody wanted to cooperate today and of course there's that thing called regression. Been playing sports contests long enough that you can never only win, win, win. With all the systems I've tried over the years, I'd do good for 3 weeks (NFL) and then the 4th week would regress. With  baseball, because it's daily, days will win, win, win then lose.

Back to the drawing board again, but this time I will be focusing on my BTS game and then MLB contests. Gotta find my mojo again.......we'll see what tomorrow has in store for us. 

Streak at 0. But, wait....Joe D's hitting streak started on May 15th......I'll tweak and adjust my formula and really get serious again starting May 15th.........

Day 3 May 5, 2023

I didn't look for my usual Gas Can Pitcher today, but instead did a couple of random linups. Nothing looked promising so I tried doing the first four players on the Road Team. Supposedly, the best hitters on at the top and the road team will alway bat in the 9th inning.

So I'll just list the picks by groups. The Top Picks first, then by next best ratings, X+10 to S+6.

Day 3 Summary

Today picks did really well.....Top Picks and S+6, not so good.

Top Picks - Reynolds, Vinnie and Murphy got hits. Suwinski and Alonso didn't and McCutchen DNP(did not play).

X+10 - Everyone got a hit. Hayes (?) and Verdugo (PR) played. Both went 0/0.

X+9 - Everyone got a hit except for Call and Witt. I think Call was still celebrating his walk-off HR from the day before and Witt DNP.

S+8 - Everyone got a hit except for Peterson. Everytime he makes the list, he goes Ofer, I shouldn't include him already.

S+7 - Everyone got a hit except for Santana and Joe. Joe didn't start the game but PH (Pinch Hit) and went 0/1. That's why it's important to make sure the lineup is confirmed with your player in the lineup because, use Joe as an example of what can/will happen. Always make sure your player is in the CONFIRMED LINEUP.

S+6 - Only Rosario got a hit. The others went Ofers. I might omit this group and just stick with the stronger groups. Maybe S+6 is pushing the envelope a little bit. I'll keep an eye and see.....

My contest picks went 5-10-2. I am -8115! I think I should just focus on the BTS contest and forget about Covers. It's hard enough finding one or two players a day.....

And I lost my survivor too. I took the TOR/PITT game O9 because most of the PITT lineup had positve numbers and a few on the TOR team too. I thought for sure it would be a high scoring game. WRONG. Back to 0.....still at 0.

Finally got a streak going. I took Sean Murphy and Vinnie P. I had to sweat it out with Vinnie, he made me wait till his last AB in the 9th inning to get his hit. Geez, and he was in the Top Pick group. I try to pick someone who I think can get a hit at his first or second AB because I base the Strategy Picks on the Pitcher vs Batter matchup. He he doesn't get his hit against the pitcher I did the matchup against, then I have to pray the bull pen will oblige. That's why I also try to find a pitcher with a bad bull pen, then at least there's still hope......

I didn't even start today's matchups.....15 games today.

Went thru all of the lineups cause I had the time to do so, just want to see how it works out today. I give up on the contest at covers....maybe I will just pick the teams with the most players listed above! I'll still try and get past 0 on the Survivor contest.....I guess they wouldn't offer the prize if it were so easy to win, right?

Day 4 Summary

Running late so will be short and sweet. Best groups yesterday were S+8 and S+7. 

The only one that didn't get a hit in S+8 was Merrifield.The only one is S+7 who missed the ball three times, then got PH, losing out on one AB.

Only Freeman of the LAD got a hit. The other three, along with Longoria didn't. The rest all got hits. In honor of the Royal Coronation and King Charles, the other two groups, along with the three LAD players, all sucked ROYALLY. Only seven out of 19 got hits.

So, I picked the teams with the most players listed and went 7-3 in the covers contest. Washington held on till the 8th inning and then lost in the 9th. And they should fired that pitcher who gave up those 7 runs in the 9th inning to LAA. I took the UNDER8' in that game and the score was Texas 3-0 the whole game until that idiot gave up those runs.......so frustrating....like I said, they don't offer that BIG of a prize if it were that easy to win......sigh.....

Gotta go finish doing todays games....I started and it looks like the TEX/LAA game should have a lot of hits and runs.....SHOULD HAVE.

Oh, yesterday I took Murphy and Chapman going for 4, but Murphy had other ideas and sent my to the bottom of the leaderboard.

Sooooooo.....back to square one......ZERO.

Day 5 May 7, 2023 Sunday

Today I just randomly searched for a good game to pick from and found the Tex/LAA game to cap.

I also did some random players, but the matchups were really lousy. On days like this, I go to the Covers contest and just take all the UNDERS.

Some games I cap says to play OVER, but I pick and choose, depending on the individual matchups using my Stategy Method Picks. But, some days it works out, other days, it doesn't. We'll see....

I am not one to brag, as one of my motto's is "When you lose say little, when you win say less" BUT I  took the OVER9' in the Tex/LAA game and I  hit it in the 3rd inning!!Yippee! I capped the game and like I said in the previous post, lots of runs, lots of hits!! Best win for me! AND, all of the Top Picks for today got their hits already!!!

I think I will concentrate on the O/U instead of the sides because for the Survivor contest, most of the choices are for the O/U and not sides.

Day 5 Summary

I wish everyday was like today. Of all the groups, only 3 out of 15 didn't hit the ball. Wallach didn't play. Of the three that went Ofer, Friedl got yanked after two ABs and went 0/2. Hey, people at MLB....take a memo please.....before you pinch hit a player, please check the leaderboard first. If someone has that person as their pick of the day, please wait till AFTER he gets his hit, then PH him. That happened to me early in the season when they  PH Gordon. I sent the memo out then....guess they never got it....LOL.

My survivor pick hit, in the 3rd inning....final score was Texas 16-8 and Texas had 17 hits to LAA's 13 hits. Prediction came through, lots of runs, lots of hits. Again, I wish it was this easy everyday.

I live in Hawaii and there is no legalized gambling here. I just do all this research for the contests that I enter throughout the year. I see a lot of hawaii people here in the different sport forums. I think they go online and log in to their "house" who takes their bets. I wouldn't know how to do that even if I could. Geez, I can't even find the Edit button here, much less putting in a gambling bet online. Oh, BTW, thank you to whoever magically made the Edit button appear after I said I couldn't find it. 

Not bragging, but in doing the research for these games everyday, I see some mismatches and some really good matchups. When I do see something, I will try to post it here for those who do/can gamble. There were three today, but I just chose the Tex/LAA game to go over 9'. The other two were the CWS/Cinn game to go OVER and the Oak/KC game to go UNDER. I read somewhere that the Oak/KC game was supposed to be a slugfest, but when I looked at the matchup, it told me no way was this game going over. Doing these matchups is time consuming and being an old fart (71yr old), I tend to get tired after a couple of hours. Some days I can do all the games, somedays I pick and choose. Guess I gotta start drinking Monster or Red Bull to give me an energy boost!!

So, on to tomorrow....Monday, travel day.....let's see what I can find....good luck to me!! I still need it!!

The three teams that stand out today are KC, Cubs and Ari. I wanted to take the OVER8' in the CWS/KC for my survivor pick, but consensus is at 79% so they took it off.

I just took Arizona-200. Garrett not a good pitcher and zona can hit.

Day 6 Summary

Yesterday was another good day. Everyone got their hits except for Hoerner, who got injured and left the game in the 5th inning after going 0/3, Santana who went Ofer, Gurriel DNS (Did Not Start) but came into the game and PH with a BB (0/0), Madrigal DNS, came into the game, PR and then  played 2nd base going 0/2. Velaquez DNP.

I took Vaughn as my pick of the day and removed Hoerner as the second pick after my gut told me to not choose him. More times than not, right gut is usually right. ALWAYS listen to your inner voice. 

I didn't play survivor since they took my choice off the available choices. That game went way over the total. I went 2-1 in the MLB contest, losing the Chicago bet. The Cardinals bullpen really shut down the Cubs, giving up only one hit. Arizona won and the O8' won in the CWS/KC game.

So, on to today.....I just glanced over the schedule and saw alot of GAS CAN pitchers starting today. Maybe it's a good day to find some OVER games. We'll see what story the matchups say.

Survivor 1

Something went wrong. I swear I posted today's stuff, where did it go?

I had all of groups, and who I was going to take for my survivor pick and what games I was going to pick in the MLB contest.

It's too much work to type everything again, so I'll just do the summary of Day 7 here.

The Top Picks were Harper, Acuna, Murphy, Ozuna, Betts, Freeman and Muncy. Harper and Freeman didn't get hits.

The X+10 group had 12 picks. Stott,  Judge, Benintendi,Casas, Devers and Correa went hitless. Marsh, Verdugo, Olson, Will Smith and Bryan Reynolds got their hits. Contreras (Mil) DNP.

The X+9 group was a big group of 14 picks. Nimmo, McNeil, Schwarber and Riley didn't get any hits. S. Marte, Bohm, Sheets, J. Turner, Duran, Kwan, N. Lowe and Estrada all got hits. LeMahieu and Hoerner DNP.

I also said I wanted to take the OVER9' in the Bos/Atl game but due to consensus, that wasn't available. Almost took the LAD but didn't.

And I di take the NYM-155, Phil-135, Atl-178 and O9' and the LAD-120. I lost the NYM bet.

For BTS, I went with two LAD players, Betts and Smith. I figured since they (LAD) did poorly last time they were top picks, this time they would apologize and get hits. Thank you, apology accepted!

That's it...still wondering what happened to my post.....spooky!!
